Dell PowerEdge FX2 and FX2s Enclosure Owner's Manual

Power supply unit indicators

Each AC power supply unit (PSU) has an illuminated translucent handle that serves as an indicator to show whether power is present or whether a power fault has occurred. The AC PSUs must be connected to a Power Distribution Unit (PDU) or to an electrical outlet.
Figure 1. PSU indicators
This figure shows the PSU indicators.

NOTE: The 2000 W PSU power cable connector is different from the connector shown in the image above.

The PSU indicators provide the following information:

Table 1. PSU indicatorsItem A shows the power indicator in green, that indicates a valid power source is connected to the PSU and the PSU is operational. Item B shows the power indicator in flashing amber, that indicates a problem with the PSU. Caution. When correcting a PSU mismatch, replace only the PSU with the flashing indicator. Swapping the other PSU to make a matched pair can result in an error condition and unexpected system shutdown. To change from a High Output configuration to a Low Output configuration or vice versa, you must power down the system. Caution. AC PSUs support both 220 V and 110 V input voltages with the exception of Titanium PSUs, which support only 220 V. When two identical PSUs receive different input voltages, they can output different wattages, and trigger a mismatch. Caution. all power supplies used must be of the same type and have the same maximum output power. Item C shows the power indicator as not lit, that indicates the power is not connected.
ConventionPower indicator patternCondition
AGreenIn standby mode, the handle lights green indicating that a valid power source is connected to the PSU and that the PSU is operational.
BFlashing amberIndicates a problem with the PSU.
CAUTION: When correcting a PSU mismatch, replace only the PSU with the flashing indicator. Swapping the opposite PSU to make a matched pair can result in an error condition and unexpected system shutdown. To change from a High Output configuration to a Low Output configuration or vice versa, you must power down the system.
CAUTION: AC power supplies support both 220 V and 110 V input voltages. When two identical power supplies receive different input voltages, they can output different wattages, and trigger a mismatch.
CAUTION: All power supplies used must be of the same type and have the same maximum output power.
NOTE: The FX2 chassis supports only PSUs with a rated capacity of 1100 W, 1600 W, 2000 W, or 2400 W.
Flashing green and turns offWhen hot-adding a PSU, the PSU handle flashes green five times then turns off. This indicates a PSU mismatch.
CNot litPower is not connected.
