Troubleshooting a storage controller module

Prerequisites

  • CAUTION: Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You should only perform troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or as directed by the online or telephone service and support team. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not covered by your warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that came with the product.
  • NOTE: When troubleshooting the storage controller module, also see the documentation for your operating system and the controller module.

Steps

  1. Open the drive drawer.
  2. Check the storage controller module indicators. If the indicator blinks amber, it indicates a fault condition.
  3. Turn off the compute sled to which the storage sled is mapped. The storage sled also turns off.
  4. Remove the storage sled from the enclosure.
  5. Reseat the storage controller module, module cable, and the storage controller battery.
  6. Install the storage sled in the enclosure.
  7. If the storage controller module functions properly, close the drive drawer.
  8. If the storage controller module does not function properly, log in to the CMC web interface and view the properties of the storage controller. For more information, see the CMC User’s Guide at dell.com/esmmanuals. If the problem is not resolved, see Getting Help.
