Installing the optional 1.8-inch solid state drives

Prerequisites

CAUTION: Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You should only perform troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or as directed by the online or telephone service and support team. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not covered by your warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that are shipped with your product.

  1. Ensure that you follow the Safety instructions.
  2. Follow the procedure listed in Before working inside your system.
  3. If installed, remove the optical drive blank or the solid state drives (SSDs) tray by pressing the blue release tab at the back of the blank or tray and pushing the blank or tray out of the system.

Steps

  1. Align and insert the SSD into the SSD tray.
  2. Press the SSD until it locks into place.

  3. Press the SSD release tab on the SSD tray, and slide the SSD under the tabs on the tray.
  4. Press the SSD until it locks into place.
  5. Align the SSD tray with the optical drive slot on the front of chassis.
  6. Slide the SSD tray into the slot until the latch snaps into place.
  7. Connect the power and data cable to the back of the SSD.
  8. Route the power and data cable underneath the cable routing latch of the system.
  9. Connect the power and data cable to the connectors on the system board.
