Setting Time Out of EXEC Privilege Mode

EXEC time-out is a basic security feature that returns the Dell Networking OS to EXEC mode after a period of inactivity on the terminal lines.

To set time out, use the following commands.
  • Set the number of minutes and seconds. The default is 10 minutes on the console and 30 minutes on VTY. Disable EXEC time out by setting the time-out period to 0. LINE mode exec-timeout minutes [ seconds]
  • Return to the default time-out values. LINE mode no exec-timeout

The following example shows how to set the time-out period and how to view the configuration using the show config command from LINE mode.

Dell(conf)#line con 0
                                 Dell(config-line-console)#exec-timeout 0
                                 Dell(config-line-console)#show config
                                 line console 0
                                 exec-timeout 0 0
                                 Dell(config-line-console)#
