In certain environments, an MDM restart may take approximately 20 seconds before re‑joining the cluster. The delay occurs during ActiveMQ CMS initialization, which is part of the MDM startup sequence. If DNS name resolution is slow or misconfigured, the CMS initialization blocks until the DNS lookup times out.

Since the introduction of Clustered VMDK on VMFS datastores, applications like Windows Server Failover Cluster (WSFC) no longer require Raw Device Mappings (RDMs) to use SCSI‑3 persistent reservations (SCSI3‑PR). Because of this, Broadcom does not offer RDM support for the NVMeoF protocol. Customers using RDMs with the SDC who want to move to NVMe/TCP must convert those disks to VMDKs on a VMFS datastore with the Clustered VMDK property. This conversion cannot be done with Storage vMotion, so applications such as WSFC will incur downtime. This KB explains how to perform the WSFC conversion at a high-level. It also covers converting an Oracle RAC environment from RDMs to shared VMDKs on NVMe/TCP, even though Oracle RAC does not require SCSI3‑PR. Oracle RAC can run on an SDC‑based VMFS datastore, but because PowerFlex does not support Clustered VMDK on SDC‑based VMFS, SCSI3‑PR‑dependent applications cannot use that configuration. Oracle RAC explanations are also high-level.
