This article provides a general overview for troubleshooting network connectivity between systems that are involved during backup and restore operations of virtual machines (VMs) protected by the NetWorker VMware Protection (NVP) vProxy appliance.

The NetWorker VMware Protection (NVP) integration is configured with the vProxy appliance. The vProxy appliance goes into an invalid state during backup. The NMC may show an alert stating "vProxy is unavailable". The vProxy shows inactive in vSphere. The vProxy is unresponsive and cannot perform backups in its current state.

The NetWorker VMware Protection (NVP) integration is configured with the vProxy appliance. When attempting to add a vProxy in the NetWorker Management Console (NMC), it fails with error "Unable to log in to vCenter." The vProxy cannot resolve the vCenter name because it is not configured with a proper DNS. Edit the vProxy /etc/resolv.conf to include a proper DNS that can resolve the NetWorker Server, vCenter Server, and Data Domain.

vProxy FLR fails with error "Failed to log in to Data Domain service". The mount session logs point to a TCP network connection failure. Either the TCP connection was reset or the context deadline was exceeded.

A NetWorker VMware Protection (NVP) Virtual Machine (VM) File Level Restore (FLR) fails to mount. Instant Access restore may also fail. The error logging returns that the vProxy failed to log in in to the Data Domain because the REST service on the Data Domain is disabled.

A Virtual Machine (VM) File Level Recovery (FLR) is being performed through NetWorker, using the NetWorker VMwar Protection (NVP) vProxy appliance. During the FLR, the mount process fails. The error returned is that the nsrvproxy_flr process failed to log in to the Data Domain.

NetWorker VMware Protection (NVP) backup policies are marked as failed but all Virtual Machines (VM) were successful. Error showing in the policy summary: Unable to find selected vCenter container work item with ID "vm-MOREF" in vCenter, the work item will be skipped.

NetWorker vProxy backups are being marked as failed but all Virtual Machines (VM) are backed up successfully. The backup action log reports "Unable to find selected vCenter container work item with ID XX in vCenter"

The NetWorker VMware Protection (NVP) integration is configured with the vProxy appliance. When a Virtual Machine (VM) is backed up, we do not store VM attributes such as the VM's tags and annotations. VM tags and annotations are part of the vCenter, not the individual VM configuration files. Since we do not backup these details, they are not restored and must be manually set after the restore completes.

A NetWorker VMware Protection (NVP) backup or restore is started; however, the Virtual Machines (VM) in the workflow sit in a "waiting to run" state. VM restore sessions start but do not progress, no write session is established. vProxy backup and recover jobs must be canceled manually.

Root account access through the vProxy appliance is lost.

After replacing the NetWorker certificate, vCenter plug-in installation fails due to certificate mismatch.
