How to replace the Wireless Module (WLAN) on a Latitude 5480

This 3D experience gives you the step by step process of replacing the Wireless Module (WLAN) and a Latitude 5480. The procedure will also include removing the Base Cover, Battery Cable, WLAN and reinstalling them.

Removal

Base Cover

1. Identify the base cover highlighted in blue.
2. Loosen the captive screws that secure the base cover to the system base.
3. Using a plastic scribe or a flat head screwdriver, gently pry clips on the base cover to release them from the slots on the system base.
4. Lift the base cover off the system base.

Battery Cable

1. Identify the battery cable highlighted in blue.
2. Disconnect the battery cable from the system board.
3. Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to ground the system and remove residual static electricity.

Wireless Module (WLAN)

1. Identify the wireless module (WLAN) highlighted in blue
2. Remove the screw that secures the bracket to the wireless module.
3. Lift the bracket off the wireless module.
4. Disconnect the antenna cables (black and white cables) from the wireless module
5. Slide and remove the wireless module out of the slot.

Install

Wireless Module (WLAN)

1. Identify the wireless module location (WLAN) highlighted in blue
2. Align the notch on the wireless module with the tab on the slot and slide the wireless module into the slot.
3. Connect the black cable to the auxiliary.(black triangle)
4. Connect the white cable to the main.(white triangle)
5. Align the screw hole on the bracket with the screw hole on the wireless module.
6. Install the screw that secures the bracket to the wireless module.

Battery Cable

1. Identify the battery cable highlighted in blue.
2. Route the battery cable through the routing clip and connect the battery cable to the connector on the system board.

Base Cover

1. Identify the base cover location highlighted in blue.
2. Align the base cover tabs to the slots on the edges, press the edges of the cover until it clicks into place.
3. Tighten the captive screws that secure the base cover to the system base.
