How to replace the Solid State Drive (SSD) 2230 on a Precision 5690

This 3D experience gives you the step by step process of replacing the Solid State Drive (SSD) 2230 and a Precision 5690. The procedure will also include removing the Base Cover, Battery Cable, SSD SSD 2230 and reinstalling them.

Removal

Base Cover

Identify the base cover highlighted in blue.

Using a Torx #5, remove the screws that secure the base cover to the system.

Using a plastic scribe, pry open the base cover starting from the SD card slot on the base cover.

Continue prying around the bottom, left and right sides of the base cover.

Lift the bottom of the base cover and push it towards the rear of the system to remove it from the system.

Battery Cable

Identify the battery cable highlighted in blue.

Loosen the captive screws that secure the battery FPC bracket to the system board.

Lift the battery FPC bracket at an angle and remove it from the system

Disconnect the battery FPC cable from its connector on the system board.

Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to ground the system and remove residual static electricity.

Solid State Drive (SSD) 2230

Identify the solid state drive (SSD) highlighted in blue.

Remove the screw that secures the SSD thermal plate to the system board.

Slide and lift the SSD thermal plate from the system board.

Slide and lift the SSD assembly from the system board.

Remove the screw that secures the SSD to the bracket.

Slide the SSD from the bracket.

Install

Solid State Drive (SSD) 2230

Identify the solid state drive (SSD) location highlighted in blue.

Install the SSD on the bracket and align with the screw hole.

Install the screw that secures the SSD to the bracket.

Slide and install the SSD assembly into its slot on the system board.

Slide and install the SSD thermal plate on the system board.

Install the screw that secures the SSD thermal plate to the system board.

Battery Cable

Identify the battery cable location highlighted in blue.

Connect the battery FPC cable to its connector on the system board.

Install the battery FPC bracket on the system.

Tighten the captive screws that secure the battery FPC bracket to the system.

Base Cover

Identify the base cover location highlighted in blue.

Place the base cover on the system and press the edges of the cover until it clicks into place.

Using a Torx #5, install the screws that secure the base cover to the system.
