Nvidia stopped blocking FreeSync support on their GPUs earlier this year, you just need to get a Nvidia driver update for your GPUs, and then enable G-Sync compatible in the Display section of the Nvidia control panel. Before buying, you'd want to verify that any non G-Sync monitor is certified as G-Sync Compatible or you may not be able to get the benefit of syncing the refresh rates between GPU / monitor. The G-Sync monitor is more expensive because it requires a Nvidia chip installed in the monitor. FYI that the alienware monitor you mentioned comes in G-Sync (AW2518H) and FreeSync (AW2518HF) versions.

One of the 2 community members also posted on external forum. Can't recall where but popped up in Google search few days ago. Still no resolution.
