AW3423DW, does not wake from standby
I received my AW3423DW less than a month ago and seem to be having an issue where the AW3423DW goes into standby, then I cannot wake it unless I unplug it, let it sit for a few seconds, then plug it back in. I am also aware which button is the power button and which is the menu button. I have searched the forums and online for this issue and usually it seems that people mistake the menu button for the power button. Suffice to say, when the power button doesn't work, the menu button doesn't either.
The occurrence is random, and not related to the pixel refresh cycle. I know that is happening when I see a breathing green light, though the pixel refresh appears to happen quite often and with what seems a greater frequency than 4 hours use time. I've seen the pixel refresh happen 2 times in a row within 20 minutes of each other and the first was allowed to complete before I used the AW3423DW again.
When the AW3423DW doesn't wake, sometimes the power light will be on purple (which is the color I set it to while on), sometimes the power light will be off (which I set it to when the AW3423DW is off), and sometimes it will just be stuck a random color, of which I have seen pink or teal. When any of these is happening, the power button is unresponsive. No amount of pressing it will make the AW3423DW turn back on. I have tried holding it for quite a while with no result. Moving my mouse or hitting a key will not wake it. The only way to get it to work again is to unplug, wait, plug back in.
I had a similar issue with my last monitor, a Dell S3220DGF. That monitor also would go into sleep mode, but the backlight would stay on displaying a black screen which is very possibly what's happening with the AW3423DW, there's just no backlight so the screen appears black but is still on. No amount of messing with the power button would wake it. I would need to unplug it then plug it back in and it would work fine. The occurrence was random with that monitor as well.
I have tried updating power settings in both the Command Center, as well as in Windows. I have tried updating my drivers using the ones on the Dell website as well as letting Windows find what it believes is the best driver. I have tried different ports on my video card. I am using the supplied DisplayPort cable that came with the AW3423DW plugged into an EVGA 3080 FTW3 and my AW3423DW firmware is M0B102. I do not believe the video card is the issue as I've had the same issue on an EVGA 1080ti SC2. I am currently using Windows 11 but the issue happened using Windows 10 as well.
Any help on this would be appreciated. I am worried this issue will get worse until it just no longer turns back on.

I meant to reply to Saltgrass regarding the lock up a while ago but got busy and forgot to. Like Guyjin37 said, it's not the system that locks, it's definitely the monitor. My MSI monitor that is plugged into the same video card powers on and works as usual, but windows does not recognize the Alienware monitor. Once I unplug and plug it back in, windows notifies me a new gsync display has been detected, and the monitor turns on.
I'm just going to continue using it until it doesn't turn on anymore, then I'll rma it. Hopefully by then there will be a new firmware that resolves the issue.

To clarify a few points:
My system is powered off completely every night.
Power connection is solid.
The system does not lock up. The system is still running fine. It's the monitor that locks up and is unresponsive. I can easily verify this when it happens by unplugging the monitor, waiting until the led (breathing whatever color it chooses, usually white) completely turns off, then re-plugging in the monitor and turning it back on. System is on and waiting, and I get the lovely "new monitor connected" Windows notification.
I have also tried all the things suggested so far, but there is no real improvement. The monitor just freezes up sometimes when it's sleeping. I guess an RMA to a panel with updated firmware is the only real solution, so we might have to try that.

Exact same issue here, glad I'm not the only one. Running the 102 firmware. Pretty much what the others have said, my short summary below:
- happens every few weeks
- definitely monitor at fault, i went from 6800XT -> 4090 and issue remains, also it doesn't happen on my 2nd monitor
- nothing fixes it apart from taking out the power cord - pressing/holding buttons, plugging/unplugging DP/HDMI, all do nothing
- in this dead/frozen state, while operating on the 2nd monitor, even if i explicitly click in Windows to detect other displays the Alienware doesn't wake up and isn't detected
Not a deal breaker for me, it's the best monitor I've laid my eyes on, but will probs RMA once new firmwares are released

I was just trying to get someone to describe their problematic configuration so I could try to duplicate it. My monitor turns black if I leave it for 10 or 15 minutes, but it comes back when I move the mouse. It appears that wake process is not working for you folks.
I think about things, like if a second monitor is connected, would the mouse wake up the 3423 if the mouse cursor was on the second monitor? Could the mouse be moving to the active monitor when the 3423 goes to sleep?
Other monitors probably do not put themselves to sleep to avoid pixel burn in. So, if other monitors work normally, that would be expected.
Could it be some monitors started with the earlier firmware and were re-flashed with the new firmware and that process did not work correctly?
Has anyone checked the Properties on the monitor in the Device Manager and see if any problems are being shown on the Events tab.
If there is a setting for allowing it to go into low power mode, can that be modified?
I really like my monitor but I find myself not wanting to use that system because of the pixel refresh situation, although I know it is necessary to maintain the 3 year burn-in warranty.

I have now set my system up with two monitors, the 3423 and 3420. One of the first things I realized is the DP outputs from the RTX 3090 are not all the same. If you do not have your primary monitor in the default port, you might try changing it to that port.
I have just started testing but I will continue for the next several days to see if any problems arise for my system.

this should help with the issue, for the AW3420DW at least

I have the DWF version of this, no issues with it at default settings. Could be a firmware revision issue.

Same issue here - my AW3423DW occasionally freezes when either turning on or switching display modes (such as when launching a game or toggling HDR). The power LED will either remain the colour it uses when powered on, or will show the breathing white pattern used when it's not receiving a signal but becomes entirely unresponsive to any button inputs or signal, only resolvable by pulling the power.
I've just turned the Eco Mode off - fingers crossed this helps. I've been setting up a new machine using this monitor and am very much not used to the idea that my monitor can be a cause of a no display issue too.

AW3423DW here and with the same problem. It only started happening after using it for about a month and then it suddenly started occurring, first not very frequent and then increasingly frequent. I have to unplug the monitor at least once a day now.
I have disabled ECO mode for now as I'm certain that the monitor gets stuck during pixel refresh, but will be RMAing the monitor soon. Luckily where I live Dell will just bring a new one to my home and change it out directly.

Just wanted to add +1 to this thread. Exactly the same issue as described by the OP. Firmware M0B102.

Another AW3423DW owner here, I have had this issue but noticed it may be limited to selecting a specific input. I've not had it occur with input set to Auto.

I have had some new developments with this since I last posted here. I seem to be getting the pixel refresh message a lot recently. I would say that 2 out of 5 times I turn my monitor on I get the message, select proceed, and then my monitor locks up. After a lockup I generally will get the message again the next time I turn the monitor on. I am on the fence as to whether that is what is causing the lockup though. I think the issue is more related to the monitor switching from HDR to SDR (and vice versa), or when the monitor switches resolutions.
I have been playing through Baldurs Gate recently and I have had it lock up many times just loading the game. Once the monitor goes black while switching resolutions for the intro movie it will never come back on. Sound is still playing fine, and any input clearly advances through the intro screens. What makes me think about the HDR is I have also had the monitor lock while alt tabbing from BG, but once again could be a resolution thing.

I really hate to bother you again, but when you describe what is happening, it appears almost normal, so I won't ask, I will just describe.
When I see the refresh message and tap Proceed, the monitor turns off and stays off for the next 7 minutes with the power light pulsing. After the 7 minutes, the power light goes out and the monitor stays shutdown. Turning it on with the power button should turn it back on.
I am assuming your system does not behave this way and cannot be turned back on. If this is correct, no need to respond. I ran my system for 3 days with a second external monitor with no problems noted. I am checking if disabling HDR will increase the time between refreshes, but so far, still appears to be after about 4 or 5 hours of use.

I want EVERYONE who is having issues with the AW3423DW to READ this: I received my Alienware Monitor earlier this month. I was more than thrilled when it arrived: it looked absolutely beautiful and the picture was stunning. Shortly after it arrived, I dealt with many of the same issues that I see everywhere online. My monitor would go to sleep and would be completely unresponsive to me trying to get it to wake up. Pressing the power button did nothing. The colors on it would cycle through seemingly random colors (not the ones I had set for it). The only remedy to make it wake up would be to unplug it and leave it unplugged for a few minutes and then plug it back in. Sometimes, not even this worked. I tried plugging it into different machines as well. I got this monitor with a BRAND NEW Alienware R15, so I know it wasn't a faulty computer, but I tried plugging it into my Macbook as well. Both machines would detect the monitor was plugged in, but nothing would appear on the screen, it was completely black. I called Alienware and was planning on doing an RMA to send it back in because I tried everything including switching to HDMI and Displayport, changing the outputs it was plugged into on the back of my video card, and as I mentioned, trying with different computes including a Macbook pro. What I found solved the issue for me was uninstalling AWCC from my computer. The Alienware Control Center application which controls the lighting on the machine was the thing messing everything up. If you uninstall this, it actually reinstalls itself on its own, so I also had to go into the Services on my computer and Disable the Alienware Control Center service. You can also follow this article here (Dells Instructions on Uninstalling AWCC Cleanly.). Ever since taking this garbage off my machine, the computer wakes up and my monitor turns on EVERY SINGLE TIME when before I was dealing with an unresponsive monitor every 20 minutes and the only remedy was unplugging the monitor and plugging it back in. Hope this helps others, please comment below if this solved your issues!
ALSO, I want people to know that I'm on FIRMWARE version 3 (M0B103), so for those of you thinking an RMA will fix this issue for you, IT WON'T. Uninstalling AWCC and Ensuring none of its Services are running is the only way!

Well, that in interesting. I own the DWF version of this monitor and have not experienced any issues with it. What you said could make sense, since I don't have AWCC installed on my system because I don't trust most Dell software based on the postings on this forum about AWCC and other software.
If AWCC is the cause, that would once again be unfortunate for AWCC. That application causes a lot of issues based on the postings I read.
