Area-51 R4, RTX 3080 installed, won't boot
I installed a Gigabyte 3080 Vision but the PC won't boot with it. I get six beeps which indicate a gpu issue. My 1080ti still works fine. Any idea what's causing the issue with the 3080? I have a 1500w psu and Gigabyte confirmed the 6 pin to 8 pin adapter cable would work.

Hello @LittlestCthulhu , i have an Area 51 R5, and i have changed the Video Card twice now, first with a RTX 2080 ti, and now with an RTX 3080 ti, and had no problems, the R4 is almost identical to the R5, do you have the latest BIOS installed ?

I do have the latest BIOS. I ran support assist and checked after first hitting this snag. The only thing I could think of was that my PCIe slots are 3.0 and the card wants a 4.0, but that's a guess at this point.

It should be backward compatible to PCIe 3.0. I assume you are using 2 x 8 pin adapter cables for the GPU power? I am not sure if your card is the same as this but the specs state backwards compatibility.

Yeah, that's the card I have. I am using two 6 pin to 8 pin adapter cables for the GPU.

It should work.
Good idea to re-check your GTX-1080i. Since it works, sounds like your motherboard is still working properly.
PCIe-3.0 vs PCIe-4.0 slot is not a problem as it should be backwards compatible. Either Windows 10 or 11 should be fine.
Not sure about adapters for PCIe-Power-Cables. With a 1500w PS, you should have all the natively-pinned plugs you need (no adapters needed).
In BIOS, SecureBoot should be able to be left on. However, check Video-Card options ... try either Auto or Multi-Graphics-Display.

I've got no idea at this point. The PSU doesn't have any 8 pin slots so I'm using a 6 pin end into the PSU and the 8 pin end into the GPU. The 1080ti uses both an 8 pin and a 6 pin connector. I'm ordering a new custom built machine. I'll know if it's the Alienware or the card soon enough.

Yes, the socket on the modular Power-supply might be 6-pins, but don't worry about that. Using a genuine cable for this Dell OEM Power-Supply ... connected it up. It's been wired properly for 6-pin and 8-pin. There should be 2-pin plug (wired into the end) to make the 6-pinner an 8-pinner.

I have no idea what was up with the Alienware but the gpu runs like a champ in the new PC. Thanks for all the responses.
