Area-51 R2, out of warranty repair

I called Dell today to get my Area-51 R2 repaired and the guy on the phone said they don‘t repair Alienware computers?

No. Reply back to the DELL-Cares agent private message. Ask them for the "out of warranty/out of process" paid onsite service. They should then troubleshoot to ascertain which hardware component is defective. Once done, they would then setup an onsite service to replace the defective hardware component. You will be charged for both the onsite service and the applicable hardware component.

Dell tech will likely tell you to replace the motherboard.  You can also buy a Replacement OEM motherboard yourself or get a aftermarket X299 ATX board if you want to continue using the original cpu.  For $300 DIY repair if I were you I would get a brand new non Dell X299 board from MSI or EVGA or GA that has good 3 year warranty on it.  I would not get a refurbished OEM board likely supplied by Dell tech.

Well that's most disturbing...I know Alienware computers are notoriously difficult to work on, but still...

Odd that when I searched "does Alienware repair out of warranty Alienware computers?" the above links came up, and neither uses the word Alienware anywhere.

They do state that: only available for US, Canada, UK, and France PC Customers. Server and Storage not applicable.

So if you're outside that area you would be out of luck.

Hmm,  any chance the guy on the phone thought you wanted the repair for free after the warranty had expired?

Actually, I have no idea why a Dell customer service rep would say that...as far as I know, Dell still owns Alienware.

Let's double check simple things first...

You tried resetting the CMOS procedure when you replaced the battery with a fresh one?

You have the Area-51 R2 desktop. None of the Area-51 desktop are sent to the repair depot.

Reply back to the DELL-Cares agent private message. Ask them for the "out of warranty/out of process" paid onsite service. They should then troubleshoot to ascertain which hardware component is defective. Once done, they would then setup an onsite service to replace the defective hardware component. Or, the Alienware users out here can assist you in troubleshooting to ascertain which hardware component is defective. Then we can offer the defective hardware component part number, possible places to purchase it, and you can do the work yourself.

Re: i’ve tried almost everything i’ve read through this  board and nothing

have you tried reset CMOs jumper?

Clearing CMOS Settings
  1. Lay the system on the right side.
  2. Remove the stability foot.
  3. Remove the left and right side-panels. ...
  4. Locate the CMOS jumper (RTC_CLR1) on the system board. ...
  5. Remove the jumper plug from pins 2 and 3.
  6. Fix it on pins 1 and 2.
  7. Wait for approximately five seconds to clear the CMOS setting.

take it to a local pc repair shop for repair may save you shipping cost. Dell repair tech is not necessarily more competent than local guy.
if it costs >$500 to repair, might as well update it to Area 51 R5 components or consumer platform in R2 case.
