It's a real shame it cannot be more explicit on their configuration site, we would have happier customers.
I agree 100 percent, would it have been so difficult for Dell to note the "Single Channel"?
Not everyone who buys a Alienware computer has a degree in Computer Science...some are non technical folks that enjoy gaming or need a powerful computer for work. And some of us are old as dirt and have trouble reading the fine print.
To be clear, I wasn't even PLANNING on upgrading to 32 GB of ram so soon, I really have no need for 32gb. I'm only doing it because Dell (Alienware) forced me to take action because they sent me a single stick of 16gb ram instead of two sticks of 8gb ram on a brand new , quite expensive, Alienware aurora R10 with a RTX 3080 card in it. I thought the Alienware brand was supposed to be for gaming enthusiasts, if so, why would you hobble our PCs with single channel memory?
I would like to think we can exchange information in a positive manner, after all we are all just community Alienware freaks, well mostly the older ones anyway
As @PineConeSeeds said, something along the lines of "I will be reimbursed". If you want to sort it you have some choices, we are just trying to help you. Maybe one day you might thank us when you have more serious problems.
1. Try the Dell support, but screaming down the phone like USING CAPS HERE will most likely not get the best result, just a suggestion
2. PineConeSeeds said that he has 16GB 3400Mhz for sale, it would probably be cheaper than buying 2x16GB ($200 for example)
3. Look around, if there are so many people that overlooked when buying that it did not say "Dual" memory, then there is probably a lot of 16GB modules around on some Auction Site.
4. You can buy 2x8GB for cheaper than 2x16GB and offer to sell the single 16GB module like option 3
5. You can continue to complain here but you will not get very far, Dell Aftersales Support is somewhere else but not here
I posted above on the first page how I felt about all our new community members not spotting the difference when choosing options. As I was replying to @Doghouse Reilly it appeared earlier in the thread.
I do hope you and all find a reasonable solution, that is what I and all the other old AW freaks hope for.
None of what you typed addresses my question of why, when I click on dell support, and then click on my brand new Alienware 3080 + 3700x PC there, under purchase parts and accessories , it does NOT list the correct memory for me to purchase. It lists 3 other memory sticks, wrong mhz, none of which are identical to the 16gb of 3400mhz that came with my system. I have no interest in wasting time on the phone on hold with dell trying to sort this out, I want to simply be able to click on purchase the correct memory stick. pay the extra money, and check out.
Wow! yeah I'm definitely looking to avoid that 4 calls and 4 emails and one Facebook message process if its not too much to ask, to be able to buy memory for my brand new very expensive Dell Alienware desktop (Alienware supposedly for SERIOUS gamers, who don't mind a 25% framerate loss in certain games, by using single channel memory? Seriously? Why is single channel even a buying option if this is a serious gaming product without doing that much work?
It was sent to me as a courtesy for my poor experience. I had copies of my rude chat transcripts, names of managers that did not respond to my emails, one transcript with a manager that led me on for days with no resolution. It was through the dell FB messaging that I finally found a person who sidestepped the and ordered me a replacement for an existing chip as if it was damaged. I received it with a return label for my defective part. Who knows they may still even charge me for it. It threatened to do so on unreturned defective parts.
I have read where other guys have been offered refunds for their existing chips but saw no follow ups. I can agree that it should be made available as a retail sale. Why they are unable or unwilling to remedy this widespread issue is beyond me.
If the website states as it does, that "(additional memory sold separately.)" it should be sold separately. If I had known that it was a single ram chip, or it would be unavailable, I would have just built it on the spot when I ordered the machine.
They need to change the description on the website, offer the proprietary ram for sale, or a valid alternative for third party purchase.
sorry you had such a bad experience , especially after spending so much money on enthusiast gear, QuantumH20. You are absolutely right. Just let us order the correct memory upgrade kit automatically through dell's support app. its not rocket science, this is a basic level of service that any respectable computer manufacturer would provide.

Why is the 3400mhz memory upgrade module not even listed for me to purchase on dell's site?
https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/memory-upgrades/ar/8134?~ck=bt
there are not even any 3400mhz upgrade sticks listed to buy?

It seems they are not for sale anywhere. It may be a question of time.

Hi PineConeSeeds,
Is this memory still available? How much would you like for it? Where are you located? Thanks.
