How much room is there at the top outlet? I might try a push-pull. I'd like to put in a 7mm silicone shroud/spacer between the push-fan and radiator as well, but will it fit?
Hi @coa132435! I just changed the fans also to Noctua NF-A12x25. How do you control your fan speed? In Alilenware Command Center they only turn up to 50%. I cannot find any way / program to get them to 100%. Also HWinfo tells me the "Chassi Fan" is always running at 5000rpm, which is obviously not true. Any ideas?
50% max speed is normal and expected with the Noctua or the ML 120 Pro. The reason is that the max speed of the front stock fan is, I believe, 4,000 rpm and the AIO fan is 3,300 rpm. Alienware OCC is configure to have 100% when a fan is spinning at 4,000 rpm or 3,300 rpm. So because there is no way to change the fan ID/profile then the max you will see on Alienware OCC is ~ 50%.
Search for the txt logs in the thermal control folder. You can see that at the very beginning it tells you the ID of the FAN ( my it say 54 and 50 something for the other one ) and also tells you the max rpm, that's why I know the 4,000 and the 3,300 rpm.
My next "upgrade" is to get the 5900x, replace the the AIO with the H80i V2, get a Corsair ICUE commandert and hook the push pull fans in to the icue commander to better manage the speed of the fans. Since I have 2 other fans: in the HD space and the intake front, I am planning to connect those one to the current fan connector to avoid the boot up error and then the push/pull of the liquid cooler controlled via the Corsair software and connected to the iCUE and yes I need a PCIE USB card to do this, unfortunately.
Hope the above helps. Not the cleanest way to do it/measure the speed but the best we can get out of the R10 motherboard.
I think you can add the silicone spacer with no problem. I am planning to do the same at a later time. you should have at least 2 cm before you hit the motherboard, my estimate.
There's a list further down with regards to processor support.
By error and trial it seems some users have reported that retail CPU's do not work in some configurations.
Alienware machines only support OEM (Box Tray) CPU's.
Just pointing out it might or might not work, so you don't go spending top dollar on a top end CPU only to find it does not boot because it does not recognize the CPU in the socket.
If you do go ahead please keep us posted here, so we can establish retail CPU's work fine (or not).
Do you know if there is any way to change the default min and max values of the fan speeds? I just searched for a config file or something similar, but I couldn't find one.
Or is there any software which supports fan control of Noctua fans in an Alienware?
Would be nice if it was at least possible to change the predefined min and max values within Alienware Command Center...

Just a word of caution on CPU upgrades: Supported CPU's R10
