The reason switching fan inputs lowered by temp is because Alienware command center was set to quite mode. In that mode the top fan ran at a higher rpm than the cpu fan. I now know there's no benefit to switching inputs because you're able to tweak fan speeds individually the the command center (i just wasn't using the command center properly before).

The ml120 pro is quieter and you can run fan speeds at higher rpm with the same/less amount of noise, but it had little if any impact on temps at 100% cpu load.

I'm going to go with the Corsair H60 AIO liquid CPU cooler as "Dell630i" recommended.

I also got tired of listening to those whining fans. And the fan controls in AWCC is almost unusable. I resorted to patch up openhardwaremonitor to properly identify the r10 super-io chip and also added a few patches to be able to automatically control the fan speed. It is however only able to use the cpu temperature sensor for speed control but it works.

Hey @akrex6 , how did you manage to use Open Hardware Monitor (OHM) to automatically control the fan speed? I don't think that's a feature of that program, are you using OHM to forward the fan speed controls to another program? I opened your version of it and nothing changed for me, i didn't have fan control in other software, and I don't see fan control in OHM.

Thanks!

Hello @jawkuz,

OHM only have fixed fan control, however I merged some of the proposed patches to have automatic fan speed control in my Alienware edition although it works for everyone else with supported controllers. In addition the Alienware edition also has support for the IT8669 chip found in the R10 which is not supported by mainline OHM.

Download the latest and greatest version from https://sourceforge.net/projects/openhardwaremonitor/

@jawkuz Good to hear it works. Or actually hear the SILENCE

I don't think the pump is actually possible to control rpm... But i think if you have a cpu fan it will control the speed. However I have never tested it since I have an AIO cooler.

@akrex6Thanks I figured it out! I'm not familiar with OpenHardwareMonitor so I didn't know where the controls were. If anyone else is stuck like me, I had to look under the IT8669E chipset section, right click on Front Fant Control or Top Fan Control, select Control > Manual Curve > New, then after hitting OK selected whatever temperature sensor I wanted the fan curve to be tied to (for Front I picked GPU temp, Top I picked CPU temp), and made my fan curve there.

CPU Pump_Fan Control didn't seem to do anything though.

Thanks a TON @akrex6 for putting this together, minimum 30% fan speed is way too high for me. I can't hear the fans at all over the pump noise now

@akrex6 Thanks for the utility and @jawkuz thanks for the how-to!  I think this is legit the only way to truly control the fans on the Aurora R10.  I swapped out both fans (Noctua P12 redux front, ML 120 Pro top) but still found them too loud.  With full control of the curves the only thing I hear now is the water pump . Edit: no, actually, it's my fridge.

Be careful with the noctua fan advice…. I just installed (3) new NF-A12x25 PWM premium nocturnal fans in my brand new Alienware aurora 10 Ryzen edition and now it’s a mess.

Error pre boot message upon every startup, which Ali then prevents me from entering bios…

the error states an issue with the front fan, but in the command center, it’s the top fan that doesn’t register any rpm data.

it’s hard for me to wrap my head around how a modern day $4,000 beast of a computer can be brought to its knees due to a simple change in fans…… but that’s the truth of it

I just ordered a Gigabyte b550 vision d-p motherboard and plan to just use my useful bits from the prebuilt Alienware to build a new machine and fling that dell BS in the trash ASAP
