I've seen these stories in forums that the oem dell ram have to be replaced ...not compatible....expensive....

I have an r10 that I ordered with 32 gb, I wanted to have 64gb so I added  an ( non dell)  HyperX,fury,  32gb,

DDR4 ,xpm 3200 mhz cl16 kit  without removing the dell one's (xn205t-hyd2) and they worked plug and play,

default bios settings. Did all kinds of memory testings and it never failled, never crashed.

So depending what you already have you may get different results. The kit was also cheap ($160 cdn)

Not the 3rd revision ( that would be risky)  I would go for the 4th.revision

the one I have is HX432C16FB4K2/32  ( 32gb kit)

My R10 came with 32 GB.  After researching a fair bit I came to the conclusion that the best option was to bite the bullet and pay what Dell wanted for their compatible RAM to upgrade to 64 GB (I run a lot of VMs).  It works perfectly and has no issues.  Two of "Dell Memory Upgrade - 16GB - 2Rx8 DDR4 UDIMM 2933MHz XMP".

I also ordered a "QNAP QM2-4P-384A Quad M.2 PCIe SSD Expansion Card" from Amazon, it is currently populated with one 2 TB and one 1 TB Samsung drives, they work perfectly and benchmark well, with no throttling that I can see.  There are two additional M.2 slots on the card that I am not currently using.

There's a long thread discussing R10 memory upgrades.

I have upgraded mine with a Crucial retail kit and have experienced no issues at all.

The information is here and lists the exact part # of the kit I used: R10 memory upgrade
