Aurora R10, memory upgrade

Hi, I have ordered a R10 with the 3700x, RTX 2070 super and 16GB of RAM. If I remember correctly it’s the hyperX fury 2666Mhz.

Since I’ll be doing video editing I wanted to get the 32GB 3200Mhz but the cost of doing so on the Dell website  was significantly more than ordering the same RAM on Amazon...

I would like to order the RAM and I’m wondering if any 2X16GB 3200Mhx XMP kit work? Orb do you have recommendations for this Ryzen system? I found a couple of list for the other R systems but not specific to this motherboard so I would assume what is recommended/tested would be different.

And if that matters in your answer I actually don’t do much gaming at the moment but mainly video editing. I’m thinking 32GB would be enough for now but might consider getting another 32GB of the same memory later if needed. I had a look at the manual and it seems 4x16GB XMP would work.

@redxps630 Yes, I wondered why no RAM info. was there. Below is the screenshot for the two slots. Other two slots are blank. You are correct, I did some research before and I read that some needs to manually configure/adjust it in BIOS to actually match the prescribed RAM settings. I was about to try it in but decided to go with the current "auto" settings as it might make my system unstable again. I also noticed in BIOS that fine-tuning is very limited. If you know how to do it, we would really appreciate it. I've been looking for threads about it specifically for A. aurora or R10 to no avail. For someone who is not a computer major, it's a bit hard to cope with these information but I'd like to learn new things. Thanks!

I asked Dell and HyperX before I bought the machine, and both told me 3200 MHz would work!

Have you tried to contact HyperX directly? You can talk to a human through their chat window

I have the same model while maxing out CPU and GPU options and the base 16 GB 2666 MHz RAM.

I was just about to place my own RAM order, but saw this thread... Could you kindly keep us poor dell owners updated? @Jaijairey

@Jaijairey finally your CPUz images came through.  SPD Tab shows the available timings for that memory, Memory Tab will show actual timings set and used by the bios.  Can you send the Memory tab CPUz for the two slots?  Ty.  Also please send screenshot of R10 BIOS or AWCC where memory settings may be tweaked by user.  Using online image upload link (e.g., imgur etc.) will make pic instantaneously available for others viewing compared to pasting pic in reply directly.

Hi Chris,

Would this upgrade be suitable for the R10?

Thank you!

Re: suitable for R10?

in terms of size, 32 Gb should work.

not certain what ram setting bios would use to run these by default.  be prepared that actual run frequency may be somewhere between 2400 and 3000.

I asked HyperX and was told maybe a BIOS update would be needed. Not sure if anyone has tried that.

R10 spec memory config supported:

  • 8 GB XMP at 2666 MHz
  • 16 GB XMP at 2666 MHz
  • 32 GB XMP at 2666 MHz
  • 16 GB XMP at 2933 MHz
  • 32 GB XMP at 2933 MHz
  • 16 GB XMP at 3200 MHz
  • 32 GB XMP at 3200 MHz
  • 64 GB XMP at 2666 MHz
  • 64 GB XMP at 2933 MHz
  • 64 GB XMP at 3200 MHz
  • 8 GB HyperX DDR4 XMP at 3200 MHz
  • 16 GB HyperX DDR4 XMP at 3200 MHz

your Kingston HyperX default (Jedec) ddr4-2400 and XMP profile 2 is ddr4-2666.  so looks like 2666 is supported.  Its XMP profile 1 is ddr4-3000, which is non standard freq. I think you can always disable XMP and run at default ddr4-2400. https://www.kingston.com/dataSheets/HX430C15FB3K2_16.pdf

I bought 2*16 3000 Ballistix Sport and it works at 3000 with xmp1, I try to overclock it to 3200 but the maximum frequency in manual mode is 3000...But I'm expecting all the memory with 3200 as default should work with xmp...

do not worry about 12 or 34 as label on Dell motherboard may have error.  two identical ram sticks in two white tabbed DIMM will be running in dual channel.

@redxps630  ok thanks, yeah i contacted dell customer service but they said they dont have the identcal ram stick that came with my R10 which doesnt make sense... so the white tabs are 1-2 and blue is 3-4? im just not too knowlegable with pcs, if i use channels 1-2 its still "dual"channel?

@Perceptor16  I recently ordered R10 Ryzen 3700x and have single channel 16gb ram 3200, but I want to upgrade to dual channel 32gb, can I just buy 2 16gb ram sticks and swap them in? If so where do I put them? How doi know which “channels” to put them in?

I think you can do that. Install the two sticks in the two white tabbed slots.  make sure the two sticks are identical in every spec.

according to Dell tech expert Tesla the Primary RAM Bank is comprised of the two "white tabbed" dimm slots

if you look back in this thread Dell moderator has listed the Dell rams.  you can send the moderator your service tag in PM and he can look up the Dell P/N you got.  The other user Jaijairey user got 5H5PW from Dell.

Re: HX432C16FB3K2/32
32GB (16GB 2G x 64-Bit x 2 pcs.)
DDR4-3200 CL16 288-Pin DIMM Kit

that looks identical to the HyperX that the Jaijairey got and was able to run at 2933 MHz in default (not XMP).  Look back at the OP description of these sticks.  When running in XMP mode Jaijairey experienced system instability.

Dell validated Hyper X

N205T 16GB Fury HyperX XMP DDR4, 3200MHz, 2GX64, Unbuffered, 288 pin, Dual Rank, 1.25V, Non-ECC, Kingston XN205T-MIE/XN205T-MIE2

RMWRN 16GB Fury HyperX XMP DDR4, 2933MHz, 2Gx64, Unbuffered, 288 pin, Dual Rank, 1.35V, Non-ECC, Kingston XRMWRN-HYA/XRMWRN-MIE/XRMWRN-MIE2

RGM6C 16GB Fury HyperX XMP DDR4, 2666MHz, 2Gx64, Unbuffered, 288 pin, Dual Rank, 1.25V, Non-ECC, Kingston XRGM6C-MIB/XRGM6C-MIE/XRGM6C-MIE2

J69DF 8GB Fury HyperX XMP DDR4, 2933MHz, 1Gx64, Unbuffered, 288 pin, Single Rank, 1.35V, Non-ECC, Kingston XJ69DF-HYA/XJ69DF-MIE/XJ69DF-MIE2

5H5PW 8GB Fury HyperX XMP DDR4, 2666MHz, 1Gx64, Unbuffered, 288 pin, Dual Rank, 1.25V, Non-ECC, Kingston X5H5PW-MIB/X5H5PW-MIE/X5H5PW-MIE2

not sure what will happen if you run the new HyperX together with the Dell HyperX.  bios will choose interesting ram settings.  Jaijairey only used the two new HyperX and took out the Dell sticks.

@redxps630  gotcha i have 16gb 3200 so im guessing its the N205T
