Aurora R10, memory upgrade
Hi, I have ordered a R10 with the 3700x, RTX 2070 super and 16GB of RAM. If I remember correctly it’s the hyperX fury 2666Mhz.
Since I’ll be doing video editing I wanted to get the 32GB 3200Mhz but the cost of doing so on the Dell website was significantly more than ordering the same RAM on Amazon...
I would like to order the RAM and I’m wondering if any 2X16GB 3200Mhx XMP kit work? Orb do you have recommendations for this Ryzen system? I found a couple of list for the other R systems but not specific to this motherboard so I would assume what is recommended/tested would be different.
And if that matters in your answer I actually don’t do much gaming at the moment but mainly video editing. I’m thinking 32GB would be enough for now but might consider getting another 32GB of the same memory later if needed. I had a look at the manual and it seems 4x16GB XMP would work.

Still running perfect without a hitch. I would say it was successful.
Next will be a total system transplant to a new case, new board and 240 AIO.
Once that is done I should have what I should have had in the first place for the cost of the Alienware system.

Many thanks for the helpful replies to this issue! I followed the purchasing and installation advice given here, and upgraded my brand new R10 (Upgraded from a R1, yeah I'm old too) to 32GB without the slightest hitch thanks to you guys. Due to budget, and no need to wring every last frame out of this system, went with the Crucial Ballistix BL2K16G32C16U4B (2 x16GB sticks) Closest thing to a problem was getting my big ham hands inside the case while still seeing where I was slotting in the sticks. Part of why I stick with Dell is the community. Now to go rock some games at other than minimum settings!

Enjoy, this system performs well when paired with a capable video card.
With a few more tweaks it would perform like a real champion. Wish Dell would recognize the potential they leave on the table and switch to a more capable motherboard chipset...

Hi. I received my R10 on 3-23-21, exactly 1 month early. I originally ordered on 3-4-21. Needless to say I was very happy.
I immediately upgraded the ram (from 8 to 32 gig) and the spinning hard drive to an NVME. After chatting with an awesome Alienware tech, I purchased the Hyperx Fury Black 32GB 3466Mhz DDR4 CL17 Dimm (kit of 2) HX434C17FB4K2/32 from Amazon ($216, now $260). After install I went into bios and selected OC1 XMP. I can confirm that the ram is running at 3400mhz via AWCC and HDINFO.

I can confirm it works perfect when upgrading the R10 to bios version 2.1.2.
No issues during the flashing process, and the memory settings are set correctly after the bios update has been completed (OC1 Profile).

Also have you checked your memory timing with CPUZ and could you post?

Let's say your running a GTX 3080 or 3090 and a zen3 chip like a 5000 series CPU and then playing games at 1440p or 4k on ultra settings your bottleneck would be the GPU not the ram or cpu which would make the 20cl 3200mhz from dell fine to run as is to my understanding no?

It depends on how you play games. I play at 1440P, but I max out the settings and limit the FPS to 60 to sync it with my monitor's refresh rate. It does not generate a CPU or GPU bottleneck. At those settings my 3080 does not really boost up past it's regular boost speed.
If I remove vsync and let it run at +200 Fps, it will boost up around the 2 gig mark and there the GPU becomes the bottleneck as my 3700X still is not near it's 50% CPU load.
The excess heat, load and fan noise is not worth it to me for the games I play, and my monitor does not support any FPS past 60 anyways.

I recently received my Aurora R10 and it only came with a single channel 8GB of 2933Mhz HyperX Fury RAM. It balanced itself out because the config called for an RTX 2070 and I was upgraded to an RTX 2070 Super.
I went looking to buy RAM from Dell but all the pictures I saw showed them without heat spreaders. Maybe I was looking at the wrong part but I remember typing in my Service Tag and it gave me a list of available RAM modules including 3400Mhz RAM, but no heat spreaders. I found that odd.
I went to Amazon and purchased a HyperX Fury DDR4 32GB 3200Mhz kit (2x16) for under $200. I had a chat on another issue with Dell Tech Support and provided them a link to what I purchased on Amazon and the Dell Support Rep said those specs matched Alienware's specs. He told me what to enable in the BIOS.
When I rebooted back into the BIOS it showed the memory speed at its default of 3200Mhz. When I launched the Alienware Command Center app I noticed that under the Fusion tab my Memory showed it was running at 3200Mhz so I did not have to change any settings. The only thing different is that the HyperX Fury 3200Mhz sticks are running at 1.35v but the system is stable and I have played several games from my Steam collections and one of them using a fair amount of memory (Project Cars 3) and no issues whatsoever. In fact when I tried running the game with 8GB, I noticed some split second pausing like it was memory starved and hitting the disk. Once I went to 32GB, it all smoothed out.
So I can report at least one person, myself has had no issues running HyperX Fury and made only one change in the BIOS which was recommended by Alienware support. The only thing quirk is that those 3200Mhz HyperX Fury sticks are rated at both 1.2v and 1.35v but it defaulted to 1.35v.

The default kit in mine was HyperX Fury from Dell, so it was OEM. It ran 3200 Mhz at 1.25 volts.
Most aftermarket (retail) 3200 kits run at 1.35 volts. It is in fact very difficult to find a 3200 Mhz kit that runs at 1.25 volts.
In your case I would say it's normal, as you have retail HyperX Fury at 3200 Mhz, 1.35 volt.
The voltage is part of the XMP profile and will bet set automatically for you if the motherboard supports your ram configuration.
Since you have a dual channel kit, I just want to point out they go in the memory slots with the white colored tabs to enable dual channel memory mode. You likely have already done that I am assuming.

I just bought it with the base memory and hard drive. The memory was 8gb @ 3200. I do know it’s picky on ram.

What was your stock RAM at? 2933MHz?
I have 16 gb@2933MHz and would like to get to 32GB @3200MHz+ but keep hearing that Bios wont support it.

There's someone who used Corsair 4 x 16 GB sticks without any issues. He included the exact part number of the kit he used. It is in the CPU-Z screenshot
