Aurora R10, no display, replaced CPU

If the system boots but there is no display with the power button flashing twice, one of the possible causes could also be CPU failure.

My Alienware Aurora R10 would not boot after shutting down with out any warning. This happened soon after a bios update. The system would turn on but no display and no power to the USB ports. I tried clearing CMOS to reset bios and all the basic troubleshooting steps trying to isolate the issue to memory, GPU etc. The only indication I could was the alienware power button flashing white twice back to back. Some threads I found on the forum suggested this is an indication of a motherboard failure that is resolved with a motherboard replacement. Chatting with Dell support also suggested a similar diagnosis. This happened a little over a month after the 1 year warranty expired. Dell support would only look at this as an out of warranty issue where I would need to pay a diagnostic fee and subsequent repair fee. Any repairs done would only come with a 90 day warranty. With every thing pointing to a motherboard issue I was not keen to try to fix the issue as this can reoccur, so I decided to build a new system and try to reuse the parts from my R10. As I built a new system using cpu, gpu, memory, hard drive from the R10, the new system would not post either. I tried with a different motherboard thinking it was motherboard issue but as it turned out the Ryzen 5600X cpu from R10 was the problem. I replaced the dead 5600X with a new 5600 cpu which is cheaper with similar performance and the R10 came back to life. Even though the 5600 does not seem to be listed as an officially supported cpu for the R10 motherboard it seems to work fine. Alienware command center seems to have reduced functionality with the 5600 cpu. Since I was not using command center or any type of overclocking this is fine by me.

That is interesting. I have never experienced a CPU failure myself, but I guess it could happen.
