Dell hasn't released a BIOS update to allow 11th gen CPU support on the R11's z490 board. Instead, they released the R12. The upgrade that you're asking about isn't currently supported on the R11.
@DELL-Chris M the 10700 -> 10900 upgrade should work without a BIOS upgrade though, right?
@dboyrusky regarding your question on worth: The reviews I've seen say that the real-world performance improvement in the 11th gen CPUs are not big enough to justify an upgrade if you already have a good 10th gen CPU (and you do!)
The 10700 to 10900 might not be worth the added $ either. You already have a really good CPU with lots of OC potential. If I were you, I'd invest in overclocking it to squeeze every bit of power out of it first, then -when prices return to normal- upgrade the entire Motherboard-CPU solution to an 11th gen (or a Ryzen, which might be a better bang for your buck).
@r72019 totally agreed! The embargo on 11900K reviews is supposed to be lifted today, but I bet the comments will be in line with the rumors: not worth the price difference for the slight real-world performance difference.
" -when prices return to normal- upgrade the entire Motherboard-CPU solution to an 11th gen"
Keep in mind that Intel 12th gen, on a new socket and chipset, and potentially offering next gen pcie 5.0 and DDR5 support, is expected to be released later this year. Also, I personally wouldn't go from Intel 10th to 11th gen, they are too similar in performance, use the same socket and chipset ... they are essentially the same, just an mid gen refresh.
Yeah, it seems they traded less cores for slightly higher single core clock speed. Possibly for some CPU intensive uses the flagship offering could be a downgrade. That would be funny.
@dboyrusky That's a pretty good OC if you're stable! The temps are awesome too! Great job!
Going to the 10900 or 11900 would not have given you much more OC room tbh, and the temps and power draw on the 11900 are horrible from what reviewers are saying (here is the 11900 taking up 293W and running at 90-something degrees! ). It would not have been worth the ton of money. It looks like the only gen 11 CPU that's really worth the price is the 11600K, but even that would not have been worth it for you, since you already have a good CPU to start with.

Incorrect. They use different motherboards. So the BIOS are not compatible with each other.

well, looks like the results are actually already in. Gamer's Nexus calls the 11900K embarrassing. ouch.

Can't wait for the 11900 with the low profile air cooler in an Alienware case.
Should hit 90 something and throttle down with ease under those conditions.

@Vanadiel Dell is going to find a way to market that as a "gaming PC with included leg heater"
