I think I remember reading somewhere that you can only change it in the bios settings upon the first boot of the system, idk if that's true or how to mimic that again, can you take out the coin cell battery out of the mobo and wait a bit then put it back in? I just remember hearing that somewhere upon the many pieced together posts I've found on this issue aha.
Also, thanks for taking the effort to make a guide, it'll help the rest of us greatly
Have you looked into people posting about getting the incorrect chassis colour in their bios? I had a search through a few but they might have info on being able to change the chassis colour and get it to be recognised that way?
Or even checking to make sure the Y cable is transferring power, could be one pin not making contact maybe? Do you have a multimeter to check?
So i dont have a multimeter, but thats overkill. The wiring is pretty straightforward, just split.
Ground, r, g, b, power (not that specific order). Connections checked. I doubt multi meter will see power to it as the mobo has to send signal there.
I think the only thing left is telling mobo its a lunar light case. I have seen this in the bios before, but idk where or how to get it back. Only found 1 unanswered post - have you seen others?
I've been looking today and I can't see the post I remember seeing about it.
I'm pretty sure you can only see it on either the first boot, or the first time you go into your bios settings. Can you just take out and reinsert the cmos battery? Will that factory reset the bios?
Idk if that will mess up your pc proper though, I haven't researched that far. Maybe try dell support and see if they know how to get it to work? Or have you already spoken to them?
You dont need to remove the battery to clear cmos - there is a jumper on the bottom of the mobo.
All that does is set ur bios back to default settings. I actually did try this, but my computer got to windows before i could hit bios, but it was like 130AM and i was done for the night.
Fyi it will reset ur XMP profile if u do this. Ill try again tonight.
Google is your friend. Here is a link I found that might helphttps://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/1532-how-to-change-dell-service-tag-on-latitude-and-inspirion-laptop
My money is on the controller board playing a role in this. Since we know you can get it working by swapping all the parts on a lunar light over, the only thing I can think of now is the controller board that the cables plug into might require a BIOS change on the mobo since you are using parts that are designed for another controller board.
I have a feeling that if you could somehow get the same part individually, but for a lunar light case, you would be up and running without needing to do anything in BIOS or AWCC.
That one guy on YouTube got it working by swapping all of the parts (in their entirety) over to the black case and it worked without needing any special tweaks. This also means that the cable which plugs into the bottom of the motherboard under GPU is the same for both light and dark cases.
I've been toying with buying that R12 case on eBay so I could take one for the team...but $200+ for LEDs???
That's what I thought at first, might be the control board. So I went and swap the board from my dsom chassis with the lunar light chassis and they both work. So that's not it. Here are some pictures of both of the boards
everything looks the same expect some numbers.
Here is a picture of the connector for the front led. Might be the cables. That's my guess
The plastic? I personally did not remove that... If you mean the whole front assembly, looks like theres w more screws in the middle you need to remove

Have not talked to dell support yet.

Worst comes to worst, could you just splice the tron oval and the ambient LEDs together? Or would that trip the bios or something else?

Also, how do you take this apart? This is where the front led cable comes in. I remove the 4 screws and it won't come apart.
i think you should double check the connectors, make sure there are no bend pins.

Yup, where the alien head goes. I'm try later tonight with my dsom chassis and see if I can get the halo (alienfx) to work and report back.
