Crucial guarantees their RAM to be compatible, so if it doesn't work you can send it back. I have Crucial Ballistix 3200 MHz XMP RAM in my Area-51 with no issues, just like the Doghouse.

The OEM-memory might be overprized but its the only RAM that is guaranteed to work by Dell. Crucial is your best choice for aftermarket RAM. It might work but its not guaranteed by Dell even if Crucial claims so. I used Crucial DDR4 3200MHz in my R10 and it worked fine with better timings than the original memory. Then after a bios-update the Aurora started with some odd startup behaviour which was gone when i switched back to the oem memory. This experience is the reason why i would stay with the oems in these Alienware-machines.
