Can you post some photos of that rig . . . or link to a thread?

RTX 4080 12GB requires 2x 8-pin PCIe connectors.

Correct me if I am wrong, but its looking like the R13 will not be able to upgrade to a new 4080 gpu.  While the powersupply does meet the minimum 750watt, it does not have the required 3x of the 8-pin supply cables for the new adaptors, it only has 2.  There are also no extra dangling wires nor any available expansion sockets in the existing powersupplies.  (Maybe some 3rd party will make a good quality 2x adaptor cable?)  Next is space.  While the case does just make the minimum 3 open slots available, there will only be a few mm left between the top of the powersupply and the gpu's air intakes, which may not be enough.  I will watch to see if anyone gets one working at full ghz, but its not looking good right now based on the nvidia website information.

Good to know!  Though for me the 4080-12gb would not be enough improvement over a 3080ti for the cost, would only go for the 4080-16gb which is looking like a no-go in the R13.

MSRP for 4090 Founders edition is 1599.99, and it appears they will be hitting the shelves on OCT 12 at MSRP.  There are other manufacturers that are more expensive, I've seen 1799.99 and 2199.99 for some of the OC and Water-cooled versions.

The new ATX 3.0 power-supplies come with the 12VHPWR connector. However, older units will have to rely on old-fashioned power adapters. According to Nvidia, GeForce RTX 40-series graphics cards will come with necessary power adapters, allowing existing ATX 2.0 power supplies to feed Ada with conventional 8-pin PCIe power connectors. These adapters can arrive with a three or four 8-pin to 16-pin designs

You will NOT have to upgrade your ATX 2.0 power-supplies as long as they are big enough.  According to Nvidia and other hardware sites, you are better off having at least 850w, or even 1000w power-supplies.

Gonna be extremely questionable if the FE 4090 is even going to fit horizontally mounted.  Even if the card fits itself, the power cable is very stiff coming out of the socket.

Tom’s posted an article that said the 4090 peaks at 493W.. That is going to need a beefy PSU and is going to generate some serious heat. So it will be up to Dell to source RTX 4090 GPU and expect them to be gimped to keep the power draws in check as well as the heat those monsters will produce.

Supposedly on another Tom’s article where it mentioned that the 4070 GPU will offer similar performance between the 3080 and 3090.

I am perfectly happy with my 3080. I don't need another heater in my room...

The problem is on the proprietary dell powersupplies in the R13, which are not atx2 standard.  On both the 750w and 1000w there are only 2x cables with 8-pin connectors.  Unless you get creative and try to splice out 3x connectors off of these 2 wires, you are stuck with a max of the 4080-12gb.

If you splice two 8 pin connector to make the required connections, you will likely damage the power section of the PSU. If that does not happen you could start a fire because of the current flowing through the spliced cable.

I would highly recommend not doing any splicing and only use 3 x 8 PIN to feed the adaptor for those cards that require 3 x 8 PIN.

I was reading on Toms, that an overclocked 4080 will draw over its max TDP of 320W, to 333W.  Looking at the current 3090 specs Dell uses in the R13, the 3090 general TDP is around 350W, so safe to say the 4080 would work in the current R13 with 750W PSU, if Dell allows it.

https://www.tomshardware.com/news/rtx-4080-overclocked-3ghz-maintains-320w-tbp

However, forget about the 4090..  It's TDP will be 450W...   No way a 750W PSU will do it.  You will need 850+ W PSU (1000W to be sure, to be sure).

I'll be interested to see if anyone out there offers an external GPU box - Maybe Dell will offer one for those that want to upgrade...

I was very lucky to get my R11 with a 3090 and 1000w psu about 2 years ago. Curious to see their 4090 and if it’s anything like their 3090 it’s gonna be rock solid in every way.
