Aurora R13, PCIe x4 slot not working?

So, this is following up on the Elgato 4K60 mk.2 capture card not showing up when installed on the top x4 PCIe slot.  Been troubleshooting this with Elgato and at this point they haven't been able to find a reason it why it isn't working in the R13.

I finally fished out my NVME PCIe adapter, put a working NVME m.2 drive on it, and that isn't showing up at all either.  It's getting power, just as the Elgato card did, but isn't showing up as it does in the other system (same with the Elgato).

I'm on the latest 1.08 bios and I don't see any options to manage the PCIe slots.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure if this will help anyone here or on the Dell team, but was readjusting settings through Intel XTU to find a stable setup after my undervolting was unstable post 1.1.0 update.  Found that I could adjust core voltages fine, but the second I touch the Performance Core Cache Voltage, the system becomes unstable.  Same is true with ThrottleStop.

Efficient Core Cache Voltage can be adjusted with no issue, but even -5mV on the performance cache is an instant crash. Haven't found any other settings that are problematic yet.

Is this BIOS version still available? The page at the other end of the link says no longer available. My current BIOS is 1.0.12, I have an R13/i9/3090, and I am also having the same issue with the Elgato 4KPro card. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Not sure if message went through the first time so I'm just trying again. Is this BIOS version still available? The link takes me to a page where the it is not available. I'm having the same issue with the Elgato capture card.

At this time BIOS 1.1.0 will not be reposted due to issues found. This is under investigation. When I hear more, I will reply on this thread.

I'm having issues with fixing the problem with the x4 PCIe slots.

I bought three (3) Alienware Aurora R13 equiped with the 3090 for professional use, and all of them seem to have the same problem.

Since we first used them they couldn't be kept on duty for longer than 30 minutes. It almost seemed like they were overworking, reason why the system crashed.

As far as I can see the only version of the BIOS that could actually help me, it is the only one that is no longer available (1.1.0)

I really need to get to use my PCIe slots and this problem I'm having with the machine is causing me a lot of issues with my schedule and my job.

Please, get back to me as soon as you can.

I would highly suggest to contact @DELL-Cares since these are new machines. They are best equipped to troubleshoot your issues and assess warranty options if needed.

When we all go to the Aurora R13 drivers page, then click System BIOS we see that a new BIOS has not been released. So no update.

Is there any way to still get the 1.1.0 Update that was pulled? I recently purchased for work the R13 and we can't utilize our 10GbE NICs due to the PCIe not functioning. Don't even need to overclock at this time.

Is there any way that a release for just the PCIe fix to be released, or any ETA on the System BIOS update to be pushed? Telling us "No Update" kind of puts people in a bind that just need the PCIe fixed. We are tempted to box these machines back up and ship them back due to the lack of port working.

  • I am using that 1.1.0 BIOS so I could use the 10G NIC. That was far more important to me rather than squeezing an extra <1% overall performance difference. I use my system more for work than games so stability is better for me. Its already so maxed out overclocking is sort of over kill at this point.

Seems to me there is more to this PCIe issue than meets the eye..

Aurora R13 BIOS 1.2.1 was released today. Give it a shot and let us know if it fixes the AWCC overclocking and still allows usage of PCIe x4 cards.

Desktop BIOS installation instructions
* Download/Save the BIOS file to the Windows desktop
* Turn the Desktop off
* Disconnect all external (USB drives, printer, headset, USB sound devices, etc.) peripheral devices from the Desktop. Disconnect the wireless keyboard and mouse USB transmitter. Go wired if you can. Leaving only the following devices and cables connected =
Power cable
Ethernet cable (if not using WiFi)
Monitor video cable
Wired USB mouse
Wired USB keyboard
If wired keyboard and mouse are not available, continue to use the wireless keyboard and mouse
* Turn the Desktop on
* Close/end task all unnecessary software applications (Browsers, Dell SupportAssist, Dell Update Application, Dell Display Manager, Steam, Anti-virus, etc.)
* Right click the saved BIOS file on the Windows desktop and choose, "Run as administrator". Note, you do not need to extract the file. Just run it
* Follow the prompted instructions. The Desktop should reboot on its own. Do NOT force it to reboot or power off unless it sits there for over 10 minutes

If we install the new bios and need to go back to the previous version, i.e. 1.1.0, will we be able to?  I'm on the 1.1.0 right now and I don't want to lose the x4 slots if I need to rollback the bios.

over clocking via awcc + pcie x4 slots, all working.  The o/c options in awcc are very very limited though.  Tell the team we really appreciate the time they are putting into getting things right.
