Aurora R13 or a New Desktop coming out this year?

Hello I am planning on making a purchase with one of the alienware desktops and I was doubting whether I should buy it right now or wait until a new one comes out.

Does anyone know if there will be a new one coming out this year other than the R12, any thoughts on what can be new about it such as a new design?

I have been researching and I've noticed that they have changed their design every 4 generations (for aurora) such as the R1-R4, R5-R8, and R9-R12; they tend to release new versions when new parts come out such as the AMD Ryzen 5000 series or the 11th gen intel chips. I know that there will be some new CPUs for Intel coming out in late 2021, maybe a new desktop will come out?

I don't really want to make a big purchase and end up regretting it when a new one comes out right after XD.

I personally would wait if you can. The next generation AMD CPU’s should be based on the AM5 socket and if we are to base the leap in performance AMD has achieved with the 5xxx series CPU’s should take another big leap.

Intel will be releasing their 10nm CPU’s and if the reports are to be believed they should arrive later this year or early next year. Supposedly Intel will make the jump to PCIe 4.0. Then next generation Nvidia cards I have read will offer a 50% gain over the current GPU’s. If it were my money I would wait just to see how big of a performance gap between the current CPU’s/GPU’s and what’s coming in the next several months.

These days PC hardware is like cars. There's a new model out each year that provides improvements over the previous year.

Regardless of anything, at some point you will have to make a purchase. I would not bother pursuing the latest and greatest hardware.

Since the current hardware performs so well you should be good for the next 3 years when it comes to gaming, and forever when it comes to anything else most users do with their gaming desktops.

I think you always will be in a spot where the next version is "around the corner".

I purchased my R10 about 8 months ago, and since then they launched a new R10 and the R12.

What is more important than having the latest CPU and chipset is stability and a good video card. Both the Nvidia and AMD cards are not going to be replaced anytime soon, not even with the next generation Intel or AMD processors.

You might see a few new versions coming out, but they will all be based on the same technology and silicon.

If you are in the market for a new PC, I would recommend the R10 right now. I would not wait for the next generation Intel CPU's to land.

I would patiently wait until one goes on sale and then purchase it. That's how I got $1,000 of the price of my R10 with the RTX 3080 in it. The same as I got $450 of the price for my G5 Special Edition laptop I purchased recently. That was a 30% and 25% savings respectively.

I would never purchase them at full retail price unless I won the lottery.

Computer upgrades are only good for 3 weeks then you have to buy a new version.

Windows 11 is Just around the corner so that you have to learn everything all over again in a new interface.

Microsoft’s “What’s next for Windows” event is set to kick off at 11 a.m. ET/8 a.m. PT on Today, June 24.

Microsoft has a dedicated website where you can view the event, and a link to the livestream will be embedded above when it’s available. If you miss the livestream, you also can stay up to date on the news coming out of the event by visiting Microsoft’s Windows Experience Blog, or the company’s Windows YouTube page, where the video will be available for later viewing.

For me the best value is to buy at first launch for products has a 2 year or longer life cycle, mostly GPU for PC. You wait another year and it will not get you any faster/cheaper GPU since Nvidia already said the next generation will be in 2023.

Newer CPU is not that impactful for gaming, you won’t get 1 extra FPS at 4K w/RayTracing on even you shell out $800 extra on CPU or wait for another generation

"Newer CPU is not that impactful for gaming, you won’t get 1 extra FPS at 4K w/RayTracing on even you shell out $800 extra on CPU or wait for another generation"

The next gen Alder Lake is supposed to drop on October 25, 2021, bringing with it PCiE 5.0, DDR5 RAM, and a new socket/chipset that is not compatible with the current 11th gen.  The release is supposed to coincide with the next version of Windows (more details of which will drop in 2 hours), and Intel and Microsoft are supposedly working together on this.  So another thing to think about is that if you wait for the next gen, you will also be on the next generation of Windows too, which you would hope/expect to have a software support life of up to 10 years before EOL.  If you buy a PC now, you'll get Windows 10, which is being replaced in a few months.
