Aurora R13, what's the best way to add RGB memory?

Not recommended because these systems are extremely picky when it comes to aftermarket support.

I do not think the OEM memory has RGB features.

This is not the “best way“, you can install RGB but you cannot change color.  one user reported “I have a problem with the RGB RAM lights on my Alienware Aurora R13 desktop. I upgraded my rams to Corsair Dominator Platinum 4800 RGB RAM 32gb (x2 16gb). The rams working fine with no issue but I can't control the lights, they always shows in rainbow color wave. I downloaded the ICUE controller, the ICUE can't detect the rams.”

Dell bios does not work with Corsair proprietary iCUE.  Dell will not release updated bios to control proprietary Corsair software.

Kevin Smith on youtube add heat spreader with rgb.  I replaced my single 8gig stick with 2 16gig rgb from kingston beast and it works great.  It took about a day for the cpu and ram to get on the same page as there is a learning process (had 3 minor glitches that a reboot took care of) , but since then have zero issues. With the Kingston, you can change color and special effects.  RGB sticks should have been included with the clear side panel pricing.  Kingston makes the ram for Alienware; I spoke to their tech and only issues they see with R13 are people mixing ram--like adding to their current ram.  No can do, remove old ram and start with new matched sticks.  YMMV depending on your configuration and what you have done with your system since new.

I doubt your RGB RAM is recognized in AWCC . . . so how are you managing the colors? Does Kingston provide software?

You may well pick your way through a minefield and pick up a Kingston set, that you can get to light up, but the memory you presently have is now headed to the waste bin because you cant match it with anything.

Also bare in mind your locked in at 4400MHZ on a R13 with no XMP profiles.

Even Dells offering of "upgraded" XMP enabled 4800MHZ memory wont help you, because it will run at 4400MHZ on a R13 and the XMP profiles are still locked out.

Just when you think Dell cant pull another dodgy stroke they seem able to. When i asked why they were selling 4800MHZ memory for a machine it wont work on the reply i got was read the spec sheet, the R13 does not support XMP memory or anything above 4400MHZ memory. Like that makes it ok to sell it.

In other words typical Dell.

Not necessarily locked in at 4,400 Mhz. It depends on memory configuration what the speed is.

Update as of today! Just updated my BIOS to 1.15 last night and updated my ICUE to 5.6.97 this morning and my Corsair Dominators can change colors as desired finally.

@redxps630​ if I remember correctly tou have to plug the Corsair control in to the usb in the motherboard of the Alienware, however the problem is you've guessed it there are no usb sockets in the motherboard, though you can buy a pci adapter which gives two external usb but also an internal usb connection this should allow icue to control the ram led (in theory)
