Could be a power supply issue. Was the power supply changed?

No, but you're right this could be the issue as the different posts Ive read online suggest different power options in windows. I've changed all my power options to be "non power saving"

If I use something like OCCC, what exactly am I looking for to show that the PSU is either failing or not working 100%?

Sorry I meant OCCT

The problem is the voltage cannot be read by third party software as far as I am aware.

Normally I would say use HWInfo64 to read out the voltages, but I am pretty sure it does not read them properly on these systems.

Your best bet would be a multimeter and log the 12 volt rail. It should always stay slightly higher than 12 Volts when under load.

Right, OCCT has a good Power-Supply test ... which is a good stress-test of the whole system.

You are looking for it to run (and exercise the GPU and CPU) without shutting-down or melting-down. You should also be able to get something going with the disks while that OCCT test is running ... like a full-system/all-file Virus scan.

I like CPUID's HW-Monitor because it can be used this way:

Value: Current
Min: Desktop Idle
Max: Highest stress (occt, gaming, etc.)

Just an update, dell sent for a 3rd time a technician to replace the power supply and graphic card. Still unable to get the "new" graphics card" to display using the display ports. Dell were unwilling to change graphics card with a different type and exchange process takes 8 weeks for a new machine. I've opted for a full refund and I'll be buying from another manufacturer. I was a dell alienware devotee, but my recent experience with dell has been very poor and disturbing. Hopefully others can learn from my experience and think twice before buying from them.
