Not sure why this is limited in the AMD system. With the Intel R15 and Kingston Fury DDR5 you get 4800MHz out of the box too. But you can just overclock in the AWCC to "RAM1" and you get 5200MHz after restart.

Yes, when I bought the R15.I thought I could overclock the Memory to 5200MHZ.Alianware should state that the AMD setup has no overclocking at all not good on their part. It would be a change from Alienware in a Bios update. I had support go through the computer remote and he could not give an answer. I do like the computer.

How about the R15 AMD. THE MEMORY is 4800 and all overclocking is grayed out. I hope it is fixed with a bios update. Not happy. The B650 Motherboard can handle 5200mhz.I think dell always seems to cripple there AMD setups.

I talked to tech support about this, wondering why this wasn't available, when every mobo I could find of the B650, even the micro, offered EXPO profiles that could increase the RAM speed.  His response was that "AMD boards have 4 slots for RAM and is expandable up to 128 GB, compared to the intel board with only two slots, and can expand up to 64 GB.  So, the Intel one has this feature to compensate."

That was his response, a tech support supervisor from Dell.

The good thing about this is that you won't melt your CPU, like some others are reporting.

yes, I just read about AMD CPUs burning out. I personally do not overclock my CPUS.I have read that memory overclocking can lead to CPUs burning out. If I had known, I would have gone with Intel. I have only had the computer for five weeks.

No option for amd r15in bios or awcc memory at 4800mhz.1.1 volt. When I bought the AMDr15and to this day in the manual says you can overclock memory to 5200mhz.1.2 Volt. I would not have bought it with this limitation. One more thing this motherboard will support 1.2 volt you will not fry the motherboard. Dell just always hamstrings there AMD partners. My last ALIANWARE.

@gerry santerre    what RAM do you have in your last ALIENWARE?

In order for overclocking options to be available you need to have overclockable RAM.

I have Kingston furry.5200 MHZ. exp and  xmp. In bios there is only auto no profiles. AWW is grayed out. In Alienware's  manual it states I can over clock to 5200mhz on my R15AMD.

@gerry santerre It depends on the memory configuration.

  • 8 GB, 1 x 8 GB, DDR5, 4800 MHz
  • 16 GB, 1x 16 GB, DDR5, 4800 MHz
  • 16 GB, 2 x 8 GB, DDR5, 4800 MHz, dual-channel
  • 32 GB, 2 x 16 GB, DDR5, 4800 MHz, dual-channel
  • 64 GB, 2 x 32 GB, DDR5, 4800 MHz, dual-channel
  • 16 GB, 1 x 16 GB, DDR5, 5200 MHz, XMP
  • 32 GB, 2 x 16 GB, DDR5, 5200 MHz, dual-channel, XMP
  • 64 GB, 2 x 32 GB, DDR5, 5200 MHz, dual-channel, XMP
  • 16 GB, 1 x 16 GB, DDR5, 5600 MHz, XMP
  • 32 GB, 2 x 16 GB, DDR5, 5600 MHz, dual-channel, XMP
  • 64 GB, 2 x 32 GB, DDR5, 5600 MHz, dual-channel, XMP

Also, only the OEM memory is guaranteed to work. Any aftermarket memory might or might not work.

What speed is your memory actually running on?

No, I have the AMD setup. The memory overclock is only auto 4800mhz in bios. Grayed out in aww. The problem I have is in the manual it says I can overclock the memory to 5200mhz. It needs to be changed it is false advertising.

<Incorrect. It is not false advertising. The manual specifications are ONLY for our OEM memory. Not for non-tested aftermarket memory sticks. DELL-Admin>

@gerry santerre So you upgraded the memory? If you did, OEM modules or aftermarket memory modules?

Since you changed to aftermarket memory modules try clearing CMOS by disconnecting power from the PSU, removing the CR2032 coin cell battery, and holding in the power button for 30 seconds.

Your rig shipped with 16GB (2x  8GB) of RAM. How much RAM do you have installed now?
