Aurora-R4, BIOS not updating

For whatever reason i cannot get this alienware R4 desktop with windows 10 to update from bios A03 To at least A04 or A05..

A05 Is the bios update that lets you upgrade gpus..

currently i cannot upgrade any gpu and i am stuck with this 550 ti for gaming.

i want to upgrade to this 1070 i have but i am getting a no post screen when i boot it up when i have the card installed. any ideas, why this is happening?

What i have done >

Tried updating through windows.

Updating through bootable USB. It says " BIOS IS WRITE PROTECTED" and wont allow me to update.

According to this old post, looks like maybe that BIOS update file does NOT match to this machine.

Are you sure you have an Aurora-R4? What Intel processor is installed?

Yeah, sounds like an Aurora-R4 then.

Thing is, there is no posted A04 for this machine. I think you should be trying A05 from here:

Since this machine is UEFI-based, there should be an option in F12 Boot Menu to flash from there.

I know this is beside the point, but wouldn't upgrading to a 1070 cause you a serious bottleneck?

True..

does anyone have a list of compatible gpus for this pc?

with the bios version A03?

I feel like aftermarket cards like MSI ASUS wont work. it feels like to me i have to use the standard Nvidia brand cards.. anyone know a list of gpus that will forsure work?

im thinking of a 980 now

I put a MSI GTX-1070 in my old Aurora-R1 and it runs great.

Of course, the first upgrade your Aurora-R4 needs is a bootable SATA-3/600 SSD (as C: ).
