Aurora R6, memory upgrade, #3

Hello everyone. I am running an Aurora R6 Intel core 17 7700 that previously had 2x8GB ram 2400MHz with 17 CAL. I wanted to do a simple upgrade and went with 2x16GB gSkill Ripsaw V 2666 CAL15.

Now the memory is only running at 2133 which I understand is the base for DDR4. I also understand you would normally just set the XMP profile to achieve 2666. I just wish I would have checked to see if I could activate the XMP profile before I bought the ram. I cannot as the motherboard doesn't support overclocking.

Does anyone have a suggestion or a list of compatible ram with a decent base profile speed and latency. I am hoping to find something, anything without having to bee stuck with ram that is admittedly a fraction faster and light years cooler than what I had.

Thanks in advance.

The aurora allows users to select XMP profiles regaedless of whether you have a locked or unlocked CPU.  You can only install and use the OC controls with a unlocked CPU.  If your CPU is locked, the only way to enable and select XMP profiles is in BIOS, f2 on startup, then if I recall advanced and performance.  The Dell aurora BIOS doesn't otherwise allow you to switch JEDEC profiles or apply your own timings to RAM regardless of whether you have an unlocked CPU. Since your RAM only has 1 xmp profile, not sure if that may be causing it read as non-xmp RAM in the bios options.  Have you tried selecting it in BIOS?

@r72019  does the aurora bios selection of option 1,2,auto refer to XMP profile 1,2,default (no XMP, i.e.,jedec default)? Is the bios XMP profile factory set and optimized for Dell validated ram only? If yes sometimes Dell sells a bunch of OEM rams made by various companies, how does one factory profile apply to 3-4 different OEM rams.  If one uses non Dell OEM and apply Dell XMP profile in bios, does it tend to get a hybrid (and non optimized) overclock?  I may have made some mistakes in terms of memory jargon in my question.
Lastly, if you have an unlocked cpu, how does Aurora allow you to OC ram outside bios? Are you referring to AWCC? Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

You should ask @GTS81 the Ram questions, he's the memory expert.

If you have extreme memory profiles, then you can select either profile, or leave it as disabled. This is separate from enabling the overclocking feature of the CPU.  XMP can be selected even if the overclocking feature is disabled or grayed out. It will output the XMP values selected and validated by the manufacturer of the RAM.  If it gave out something different, it wouldn't really be a manufacturer "predefined" memory profile.  If you have mismatched RAM I suppose this could pose a non-boot problem or cause it to be auto disabled. You can't run two different XMP profiles simultaneously.

If you leave it as disabled, the aurora's BIOs will automatically selects the appropriate timings for the RAM.  It will also apply memory training on boot. There is no option for users to edit timings in the aurora bios.

The OC controls tab of AWCC allows users to select between the available XMP profiles when engaging overclocking of the CPU in windows.
