Aurora R7 CPU temperature and fan noise

High all,

I recently purchased an Alienware Aurora R7, with the 850W case, but without liquid cooling. When I am gaming the temperature of my system continuously exceeds 80-85C and the CPU fan is making a lot of noise.

I would like to replace the fan cooling with liquid cooling. I tried installing a Corsair H80i v2, but it does not fit inside the case. Also I am from the Netherlands and somehow the standard aurora liquid cooling unit (http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/aurora-liquid-cooling-kit/apd/412-aajj/pc-accessories) does not ship to here.

Could anyone please advice me on what cooling system to purchase or any other possible solution?

And yes I am aware of a similar discussion (https://www.dell.com/community/Alienware-Desktops/Brand-new-Aurora-R7-CPU-temps-70/m-p/5705894#M378) but here no compatible liquid coolers are mentioned.

My specs are:

Intel i7 8700

850W EPA Bronze PSU Air Cooled Chassis

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti with 11GB GDDR5X

32GB Dual Channel DDR4 at 2667MHz (2X16GB)

Not sure why the Sales Configurator allows you to config an Intel-i7 without Liquid-Cooling in the first-place.

Obviously, the original Dell/Alienware one you linked to would be my first choice. Are you sure your designated country Dell Parts won't sell you one?

Since it's Asetek-made, Corsair or someone should have the same one (or very similar) ... just without the Alienware logo on it.

Also, it's hard to get traction on this issue because users don't answer questions asked or ever come back and post their solutions.

PS. I bought my Aurora-R6 properly configured with 850w Power-Supply and factory Liquid-Cooling.

Also, if you search, I have a feeling this has been covered in Aurora R5/R6 threads.

Hi Tesla,

Thanks for the quick turnaround. In hindsight I definitely agree. The R7's case is really snug, not much room to wiggle in there for any kind of upgrades so a stock liquid cooler would be much more preferable. Sadly no, Dell is not selling and/or shipping the desired parts to NL.

I have ordered a Cooler Master Masterliquid 120 Lite. Mostly on the basis that it will probably fit in any case with a tight space, unlike the heavy tubing on some of the heavier Corsairs. Hopefully this will fit when I close the power unit.

I'll let you guys know how it will work out. In the mean time, do you think a Corsair H45 or H60 would also fit?

Hi all,

So I've installed my Cooler Master Masterliquid 120 Lite. It seems to work fine, even when doing Intel stress tests or Intel burn test the CPU never comes above 90 C. Gaming for a short while also seems to have it at a stable 75 C, but no experience with longer sessions yet.

However, the boot time is ridiculously long, around 4 minutes while at first my system was up and running in 20 seconds. Additionally, for almost 95% of the boot time my monitor has no signal. On top of that, the on/off switch is acting normal the first two minutes, but after that it starts flashing in yellow. Sometimes five times in succession, sometimes only once. I know this means hardware failure, specifically system board (one flash) and CMOS battery (five flashes).

However, after the entire sequence of about 4 minutes the system operates normally. I have done the standard Dell/PC doctor tests and no issues are found. Should I change something in my BIOS to operate correctly?

Hopefully someone can help.

On the bright side: The Masterliquid 120L at least fits nicely in the R7's cage :)

Double check you reconnected everything properly. Also is the fan PWM? Pretty sure aurora liquid cooling kit is PWM which might cause the boot problems

I am about to get the same one, just wondering how flexible the cables are, so when the PSW section closes in, they don't squash or prevent it from closing...Also, does it have a USB header for pump control? My H80i requires one, so I could not use it with the Aurora case (could not find one).

This is your target. Seems like someone else other than Alienware would be cloning this same Asetek cooler:

and users are making progress here:
