Aurora R7, Why is Windows updating NVIDIA Control Panel?

Might be a odd question, but I been using NVIDIA drivers for years. I'm currently on driver version 461.72 (not the most current) I see this today below. I always assume latest drivers you get latest version of NVP. I might have just not paid attention. Just curious why Windows is updating this.

** I know its more of a Windows/NVIDIA question. Its still in my Dell PC

NCP is now distributed via the windows store.

"Per Microsoft requirements, the NVIDIA Control Panel is no longer included in the driver package and is instead distributed exclusively through the Microsoft Store and seamlessly installed following the completion of the NVIDIA driver installation."

As an aside, windows will also auto-update your Nvidia drivers if they get too far out of date, fyi.

Thanks! I checked out some similar info and posted in the NVIDIA forums. Makes sense.

Now i'm searching whats better Standard vs DCH.. seems no difference except smaller/faster install with the DCH

I'll keep it as is and stay with what I have. No harm no foul.

It's the latest craze. Microsoft is tying more and more driver hardware to the windows store.

In my opinion not a good choice, because manufacturers will now be tying their updates to the windows store, leaving out other operating systems in the process.

Not to mention the huge swaths of Windows users who don't trust MS not to bork their machines, so completely disable Windows Updates altogether.

Its a way of demanding more royalties for WHQL certification. Once secure boot can no longer be turned off they will have complete control as to what software and hardware will be allowed on your machine,

Its also a way of locking out free software and linux distributions that don't  have certificates like Redhat and Ubuntu etc have.

They are becoming more like apple where All hardware MUST RUN the latest OS and any software not updated WILL No longer run.  Forcing you to buy new systems every 5 to 7 years because the older os wont install on the latest hardware.
