Aurora R7, adding an M. 2 SSD

Hi,

My son has an Aurora R7 with an SSD (C:) and an extra drive (D:).

We're looking to add another drive for more capacity, and from the other discussions on this forum I think the advice is to get an M. 2 PCIE nvme SSD of length 80, to fit into motherboard slot 13 (?)

Assuming that's correct, would it be the case that I simply slot it in (without needing extra cables), boot up the machine and initialise/format the new drive as E:?

And if all the above is correct, are there any downsides to the above approach?

Many thanks.

Dell doesn't sell the Aurora stock with an unused m2 slot on the mobo.  It either is sold with an m2 nvme as your boot drive, or with an optane stick.  So in your case, with 2 drives, your m2 slot is being used by the c: drive.

You can get a 2.5" sata SSD for more storage.  You need to buy a sata data cable to connect it.  The power cable is in the pc.

Okay great thanks.

Is there any maximum size?  I've been looking at 2Tb SSDs but some forum threads talk about maximum 1Tb.

On a separate note, I'm also looking to get the AW3420DW monitor - do you think the current graphics card would be adequate for gaming?

Thanks again,

Steve.

It can take a 2tb hdd or ssd.  Dell sold the r7 stock with 2tb boot drives. If the drive is larger than 2tb it needs to be initialized with gpt (not mbr) to see more than 2tb.

Great, and can I check that the SanDisk SSD Plus 2Tb Sata III 2.5 inch internal SSD is compatible?

And apart from the data cable, do I need one of those blue mounting cases?
