Aurora R7, non-Dell memory running at 2133MHz

I have the latest R7 with i7-8700(non-K) and per google the maximum memory speed is 2666MHz.

The system comes with two hyundai 2666MHz at slot #1 and #3. I've checked them in cpuz and they both running at 2666MHz.

The problem is the memory I purchased. I purchased two corsair LPX 2666MHz first from amazon and put them in both slot #1 and #3 and slot #2 and #4 but they keep running at 2133MHz. I thought amazon might send me the wrong one so I purchase two corsair lpx 3000 at newegg. The problem persists and when I check in BIOS the memory speed is 2133MHz.

I used Alienware Update software and the BIOS is up-to-date I assume.

P.S. the bios really needs a upgrade since every time I try to save and exit it tells me "save and reset"

No. The Primary Memory Bank is composed of the two white-tabbed slots (XMM1 and XMM2).

Should show in BIOS.

ePSA should pass.

Yes, CPU-Z is right tool. Not only does it show SPD, it shows if running in Dual-Channel.

Thank you tesla again for fast response!

I'm not sure about your term "Primary Memory Bank" and the "XMM1", "XMM2", "ePSA".

cpuz does show it's running in dual channel

ePSA is core Diagnostics from F12 on boot.

The Primary-Memory-Bank consists of the two white-tabbed slots. See their labels XMM1 and XMM2 written on motherboard.

Install your original with two Hyundai 2666 DIMMs in those slots. Capture BIOS, and all CPU-Z screens.

When you do the same for the Corsair DIMMs, I think it will be clear to you what is happening.

emmm I don't.

I've tried before and I just tried again but no difference. All for memories passed ePSA test with combination of #1 #3 and #2 #4. The only difference is that when two corsair ones are installed, I can choose XMP profile in BIOS. However they are shown as 2132 in BIOS. When Hyundais are installed they are shown as 2666.

Right. Because the Corsair's JEDEC #8 is 1066 mhz. Times two for DDR = 2132 Mhz .

You would have to use a different XMP (or maybe do it manually in BIOS ?). I forget, but turning on OC for memory might also jump to the next JEDEC/XMP profile.

Thanks for reply! But I only see one XMP profile in BIOS settings.

From my Aurora-R6 notes ... with:

Intel i7-7700K 4.2ghz (Kaby Lake)
16gb (2x8gb) DDR4 Kingston Hyper-X Fury 2667mhz Ram (Dual-Channel)

In BIOS, If I Turn-ON OC-ing, but leave Core-OC OFF, I am still be able to Turn-ON XMP1 or XMP2 and it seems to work (and reports properly high mhz in CPUz).

Mine is non-K and all OC settings are disabled in BIOS

Did you ever find a solution? I also do not have the 8700k, so im entirely unsure if the majority of the RAM questions and answers are even valid for me without.

I haven't upgraded yet because this motherboard is a **bleep** headache.

I upgraded to 64GB (2 x 32GB sticks) from Corsair Vengence LPX and it booted at 2133.  I went to performance settings in the BIOS, XMP1 was disabled.  I hit the optimize button on the right side and it refreshed with XMP1 selected.  I saved, rebooted and I'm at 2666.  In Ubuntu, ram speed confirmed at 2666 as well, seems stable, fast too - as you'd hope.

It's a Dell. What did you expect?
