Wired or wireless?

the R7 comes with:

Ethernet 10/100/1000 Mbps Killer E2500 Ethernet controller integrated on system board
Wireless
  • 802.11b/g/n
  • 802.11ac
  • Bluetooth 4.1/Bluetooth 4.2

You should be able to reach gigabit speeds, but your router has to support the proper protocols, either

  • 802.11ac wireless
  • gigabit port wired

Hello Vanadiel,

Thank you for the reply. That is correct I have the Killer E2500 but I have only been able to achieve speeds up to 100 mbps via both wired and wireless, currently I have my Aurora R7 connected via ethernet. My router should be up to snuff as I pay for the 500 mbps plan and included is the router to handle that speed.

I just ran a speed test through my surface tablet and clocked it at 470 mbps so I dont think my network is the issue.

Do you think this is a settings issues that is preventing me from going over 100 mbps?

I appreciate your expertise!

I would recommend unistalling the Dell optimizer Killer Killing your network drivers and install a 2.5 gig NIC.

Try opening up a powershell and type in the following command without the "

"Get-NetAdapter | select interfaceDescription, name, status, linkSpeed"

It should give a read out of your actual link speed of the adaptor.

Yes, that is true. It can cause throttling of connections when it tries to "optimize" network speeds.

Thanks for the info when I run that command this is what it gives me. Ethernet 2 says "disconnected" any way to change that to "up"?

Your ethernet adaptor is connected at 100 Mbps, that is why you only get 100 Mbps speeds.

It is likely an issue with the port of the internet router/modem you have connected.

Ethernet 2 is the Nord VPN tap on your system, which is the VPN tunnel for Nord VPN. To enable that, you have to connect to the internet using the Nord VPN application. It's a TAP linked to your ethernet controller. You still will have the same issue because of your ethernet adaptor connection speed.

You can try forcing the adaptor to a 1 Gbps link speed.

Force link speed

Go to "Select speed and duplex of your connection" on that page.

Then select 1.0 Gbps full duplex from your drop down menu.

If it is unable to connect than you either have a cable issue, or a configuration issue with the hardware of your router/modem.

Howdy - Thanks again for both sets of advise.

I followed both recommendations (changed settings and got the recommended network card). Unfortunately neither has helped. I don't think its a cable issue as the ethernet cable is plugged into the blue hole on my router that says (5Gb) I have ATT fiber. All of the hardware except for this new network card is OEM so I'm unsure how to determine if its a hardware issue. Again I don't think its a router issue since my surface tablet can clock over 400 mbps over wifi.

Here is a readout from powershell on the new card. This new card has the speed options for 1GBPS full duplex and 2.5 GBPS full duplex and I have tried both but neither works to get me higher than 100 mbps

If y'all have any other recommendations I am all ears.

If both cards only connect at 100 Mbps linkspeed I would look at the cable, or the router configuration.

5 Gb is unusual on a router, usually they have 2.5 Gb or 1 gb.

Hello,

Just wanted to circle back to go over the resolution. Turns out again you were both right! I needed a different card as the Killer 2500 wont go over 100mbps, although it states its a gigabyte card the settings would not allow me to up the speed. Also I was using a cat5 cable so that was also limiting my speed. I am happy to report now with a new card and cat6 cable I am hitting over 1GBPS.

Thank you both. I really appreciate the advise.

Not sure what your problem was, but that ethernet NIC (actually on-motherboard I think) will definitely do 1-gigabit ... easy.
