Aurora R7, processor upgrade to AMD?

Hey there,

I'm no expert at computers but I've so far upgraded my desktop from the original 8gb of ram to 32, upgraded the 1050ti to a 2060rtx and added an SSD. I'm now thinking of upgrading the CPU and I need to know what CPU's are compatible with the stock motherboard as I'm currently looking to change from the original intel ]i5-8400 to hopefully an amd if it's compatible. Below is an ss of the motherboard model.

JOcean is correct. No amd for R7 stock motherboard.

Motherboard uses Intel 8th gen coffee lake Z370 chipset.  Compatible cpus are Intel 8th gen coffee lake cpu.

your top cpu options include i7-8086k and i7-8700(k).  You can look at user benchmark to see popular cpu used in R7.

The socket and CPU types are completely different  from Intel to AMD. You cannot install one to the other in any motherboard. You would have to replace the MB. This forum post has more information on Intel upgrades.

You cannot put an AMD CPU into an Intel socket, and vice versa.

In the case of the R7, it supports the following CPU's:

8th Generation Intel Core i5/i5k
8th Generation Intel Core i7/i7k

R7 Specifications.

You top CPU options also depends on your PSU.  You cannot upgrade to the 8600k, 8700k or 8086k or any k processor with the OEM base 460w PSU.  You would need to upgrade the PSU first, especially with the 2060 in there.

Also, for a K class CPU, you need to upgrade from air to liquid cooling.  The base 65W tdp heatsink/ fan cannot support an unlocked cpu.
