Aurora R7, upgrading GPU/CPU, RTX 2080 Ti?

Hello, i have an R7 with GTX1070, i7 8700 (non k), 16gb ram. I am planning on upgrading to a RTX 2080 ti 11gb. I have been looking at this  EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Gaming, 11GB GDDR6, RGB LED Logo, Metal Backplate, 11G-P4-2380-KR https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JFH515H/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Lc53EbF0VGQ2F

and was wondering if it would be a good match?

i know that my R7 probably has the 460w power supply. Im also needing some help in deciding on what PSU to go with. Ive heard that alot of people like the EVGA G3 but other people tell me to buy a OEM 850w R7 PSU. I also noticed that the DVD drive has a possibility of not working due to some cables not fitting? Forgive me, i am not very knowledgeable on these types of things and am trying to learn as much as i can. I am asking for some help from the community in wich option to go with. If someone can enlighten me i would be most grateful! Thanks in advance!

Well, you bought them from 3rd party sellers on Amazon, so I recommend you test them individually. If the package arrives and it looks dubious, reach out to Amazon immediately.

Both items are marked-up in price compared to MSRP so it's not a deal but if your priority is to get it done sooner or later, that's your only choice today in the global pandemic situation.

Not sure why you need extra HDD cable. You should have more than enough with your new PSU. The optical drive yes, you'll need a special cable/ extension.

thanks for the reply! I know about this issue i believe this model i am looking at is actually 10.46 inches. Or at least thats what it says on amazon. As far as that PSU u recommend will it have all the necessary cables i would need? I also heard theres an issue with the case not closing if u don't have the right angled cables for the HDD. Does this depend on what PSU i buy?

Im looking at pricing for it... is it really $350?? Isnt there something a little less... expensive? Lol

EDIT: cant i just buy a 750w instead?

That looks like a winner to me! Where would be a good place to buy one?

Yeah i can see your point, honestly it doesn’t  bother me knowing i might have to upgrade the PSU again. I think im gunna go with the 750w because im spending so much on the gpu anyways and if it works then im a happy camper.

EDIT: the nearest micro center is 71 miles away haha

Thank you so much! Your answer just confirms my suspicion of the extra cables needed for this upgrade. That PSU will probably be the one i go with. I found that 15 pin adapter already and purchased it. Thanks for all the info!

@Tool462 :

Do you have a specific reason for choosing that graphics card? It's EVGA's blower version and doesn't have as high a factory overclock compared to the XC versions (though those are open fans style).

EVGA XC card: https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=11G-P4-2382-KR

For the PSU, it really depends on your combination of CPU and graphics card. If you stay with the non-K CPU, then 750W is enough. If you want to overclock your CPU in the future by going to 8086K or 8700K, then you will want to have 850W.

Yes, you'll need to use the 90-degree SATA power connector if you have a HDD sitting in the upper front bay. That Seasonic 850W that @Anonymous shows is shipped with cables with the 90 degree connector. I'm using that now.

Unfortunately I butchered the Seasonic PSU cables on my set. Otherwise I'll sell you my PSU. You may need to find someone who knows how to make PSU cables.

So the main reason why i bought the rtx blower model is because i heard that it was most effective with the air flow design of the system. I actually just purchased everything for my upgrade:

EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Gaming, 11GB GDDR6:

As well as the Two cables i need for the HDD and the optical drive. Grand total: $1,573.78

i hope i made the right purchases haha!

@Anonymous :

The GPU power connector on the mobo; is that a PCIe (6+2) cable or an EPS (4+4) cable?

EPS (4+4).

I just realized that there is a good reason why Seasonic always gave a 6+2 on the PCIE end of the cable and not a pure 8-pin. That would have allowed the cable to be flipped around and connecting the PSU to the GPU with the wrong pins. Only reason why this doesn't happen is the very large notch of the 6+2 doesn't fit in the PSU end.

@Dell630i: "Oh, so you mean if you took one of your orange-black cables and flipped them around, you'll fry $1500 worth of graphics cards?"

Price from amazon was $100 from 2017 through 2019, and $120 from 2019 through March 2020, for this same PSU.  Third party sellers are having a field day with the markup here.

Much better deal than $230 for a 750W seasonic GPU, IMHO.  I wouldn't pay more than $110 for that.
