Aurora R8, bluetooth not working, SOLVED

It's April 2020 and I have run into a similar problem on my Alienware R8.

I lost all Bluetooth functionality. The on-off switch in Windows 10, the icon from the system tray, and so on.

It was a hardware issue, stemming from the fact that I had opened up the case of the Aurora R8 to looky loo and blow out the dust. It was after that when I lost contact with anything to do with BT.

I think I somehow put the left side cover on slightly askew. Yes, I did close it up, but that is when my difficulty with all things BT began.

Today I removed the lid, swung out the power supply, and CAREfully put everything back together. My BT headphones immediately worked as usual.

This was after 45 minutes with a Dell hardware tech and 30 minutes with a Microsoft Windows guy.

Hope this saves someone a major hassle.

I have had he same issue twice and now the third time I don't feel like reconnecting the antenna wires. Everything about this systems works fine except the BT adaptor. So my advice would be never open the box and order the specs as you need it. I had to add RAM for online gaming so I had to open my system.

Today my Bluetooth stopped working, and upon restarting my PC says I don't even have BT which is clearly wrong. I've never opened the case... not sure what's going on here.

Hi @strentax

Just read the thread and perhaps maybe by now you have been contacted by Dell support. They're very helpful when it comes to tech support.

Best of luck!

Hey, they did contact me but by then I'd reinstalled my BT drivers and things worked again. Weird!

To be honest, if you put the MOBO in a refreshed state meaning unplugging the power cord of your system which I assume you did and plugging it back on. I also find that every time a new update is available the bluetooth will go away. The bluetooth will come back for a little while but it will go away again this is why my card has been replaced ever since I havent had issues with it.

If you have the bluetooth functioning right now and the problem doesnt come back then thats great!

I also had a similar problem, and many of the things on this thread did not work. What did work, however, was turning off the computer, unplugging it, waiting 30 seconds, plugging it back in, and restarting.

After uninstalling, reinstalling, windows updates, Alienware updates, etc, UNPLUGGING the computer solved the issue.

Some of the things that worked for people on this thread, like reseating something or doing something with the wires, I believe worked also because it involved unplugging the computer to do so. I got the idea from this thread:

https://www.dell.com/community/XPS-Desktops/XPS-8930-Qualcomm-QCA9377-Bluetooth-failures/td-p/7401795

Still not sure why it got into this situation, but twice now, after losing Bluetooth capabilities, this method got my Bluetooth back.

If you read the whole thread, it is recommended that you should just ask for a replacement card. Ever since my card has been replaced, I never had the issue again.

Genius!

Thank you for posting this, I was going mad trying to work out what was wrong.

One-minute Bluetooth was fine, the next minute it was gone to never return. After doing your trick of opening the case, fiddling with the black/white wires, and closing again... bingo! Bluetooth is back!

Seems like this affects quite a few people. Dell should try and make this more robust in some way.

Thanks!

I got exactly same situation as you. My Bluetooth is back after I unplug power and plug in again around 10 minutes later.

I just had this issue too. Bluetooth/wifi  out so I took apart the PC, reseated the wireless card in the M2 slot and put it all back together and it's working again like normal.

Same problem had the side of the case kind of just set on "so the connection at the top wasn't fully connected" (the lights drove me nuts when I slept) so I slightly cracked open the case a lil to stop it and lost all Bluetooth (after over a year of it like that) and couldn't find it again anywhere UPDATED EVERYTHING for 2 days then gave up them stumbled across this post the next morning... glad I did was just about to order another one!

THANK YOU ART OF SILENCE!

I can confirm shutting down the pc. Unplugging it and pressing power button to fully drain power supply has resolved this issue for me.
