Aurora R8, cooling options

I recently bought an Aurora R8 without liquid cooling not fully realising how the fans can get until after I bought it.

The configuration includes:

850w PSU

Intel i9 9900k

NVIDIA RTX 2080 Super

1Tb SSD, no HDD

32 Gb RAM

The noise occurs when the CPU is under load rather than the GPU.

I have read that the Corsair H75 and Noctua AF-A8 PWM are good after market options ofr improving cooling. I was wondering what experiences people have had when upgrading the cooling with this PC and how much it has affected noise levels. The other option would be transferring to a new case but I am not it a hurry to do this. Are the any pitfalls to watch out for when installing aftermarket cooling in this device?

@slipjohn1

The H60 comes with a fan where you can either mount to the radiator or the Front as an intake. The best-case scenario is just to purchase an additonal 1x ML120 fan alongside like @Anonymous said so you can rid of both the stock Dell fans to make the computer quieter. Not necessary but if you don't like the fan noise then that's that.

I'll definitely get the second fan. There's no fan noise though. Headphones fix that pretty good.

Cool thanks. I wouldn't use LED fan, can't see it anyway. Hey, slightly off topic, can someone point me in a good direction to fix awcc? It stopped working. Just shows a bunch of dots going in a circle like it's thinking. I uninstalled according to Dell and reinstalled and it does the same thing. I'm not sure why it messed up, but it was after an update and now I can only control LED. Dammit! LoL

Hey. Sorry to reopen this old wound, but I was wondering if you could tell me where you plugged in your fan and pump on H60? The instructions are pure garbage and I get different answers from different videos. Most say to plug pump onto the cpu fan header but I'm not sure if that is constant 12v. I know pump needs constant 12v. I thought maybe plug it to pump fan header, but I know something needs to be on cpu fan header or that's where the errors come from. The pump only has 3 pin plug and the headers are 4 pin. So which three pins get the plug? LoL. I'm still waiting on the ML pro fan and I'm gonna do the radiator "sandwich" that was mentioned. More air is better. I just need to figure out where to plug in the second fan. BTW, no one else I talked to heard of this bios error. Everyone used the fan that came with H60. Maybe issue is resolved? Thanks for the help. I hate to be a PITA, but I just don't wanna fry my machine.

I wouldn't utilize LED fan, can't see it in any case. Hello, marginally off theme, would someone be able to guide me a decent way toward fix awcc? It quit working. Just shows a lot of specks going in a circle like it's reasoning. I uninstalled as indicated by Dell and reinstalled and it does likewise. I don't know why it destroyed, however it was after an update and now I can just control LED.

Why did you repeat exactly what I said, but in broken English??

Ok thanks. I was thinking that, but I read a lot about something needing to be attached to the CPU fan header. On Corsair's site people were saying the pump needs to be attached to that in case it fails, the PC will be able to shut down. If nothing is on that it gives an error or may not boot at all. Not true? If the fan were to fail then the PC shuts down cuz it gets too hot. If there's nothing there PC won't shut down if it's too hot right?

Sorry but I doubt the Pegatron Z370 board that Dell puts inside our has such advanced functionality to shut down on fan/ pump failure. I've let my components roast before when AWCC decided to stall my fans and not raise a single warning.

Advanced functionality? That's a typical function of any motherboard. I'm pretty sure they're designed shut down if fan fails. Wouldn't any mobo do that?

I think the motherboard shuts down due to component overheat. I have tested this on both the R8 motherboard and an MSI Z390 MEG ACE which is considered a mid-to-high end board. Even though the fans were not spinning because a wire was stuck between the blades hence returning 0 RPM reading, the system went on as though it was business as usual.

Maybe you have a different experience with your motherboard?

Well, technically once you hit T-junction the PC will shut down as a safety measure.  Then, on next restart you'll get the pump failure message.

Finished cooling upgrade of my R8.

1. 2 * Corsair ML 120 PRO LED BLUE - in sandwich for top pull/push

2. 1 * Noctua 120mm A12x25 PWM - for front intake (via low-noise adapter)

3.  1* Thermalright  AXP-100-Full Copper - for CPU.

Needed a backplate for CPU holder, bought broken mobo with LGA 1151, oem backplate removed.

What a difference in noise level! and temps levels at full cpu load.

pair of pics for now, willl make more when make same for another R8.

modified vr heatsink a bit )modified vr heatsink a bit )xtu testxtu test

Also, what was done to the vrm heatsink to get the cpu cooler to fit?

Nice! Are you getting any fan error notifications when you restart the pc?

no errors at boot, so LED version is ok to go also no errors on cpu fan

as for vrm heatsink, I halfed the raw that is close to cpu cooler, just cut it off, so its now like: iIII. Probably not good solution, but cpu cooler is more important for me ))) . But I cut it as I removed vrm heatsink before fittig cooler. Will try on other R8 other solution, just bend a bit that raw as othewise its too close to radiator.
