Aurora R8, memory upgrade, #2
Hi All,
Sorry if this question has been asked already but as others mentioned, i am not getting any clear answers..
Got my system last week and my PC came with 4 slots and two are filled with
(2 x 8GB ) 16GB Dual Channel HyperX(FM) FURY DDR4 XMP at 2933MHz
I want to add 16GB more to bring the total memory to 32gb. Can the below work ?
They are matching exactly close to OEM but sadly one of the reviews had some issues as posted below in the review

My wife bought these for me as a birthday present as I just got an AlienWare Aurora R8 with 2x8 HyperX Fury sticks in it. I read about how the R7 needed to be loaded 1 stick at a time to get the machine to recognize the additional ram and thought this could be carried over to my R8. IT DOESN'T WORK!
These sticks of RAM are great. I was able to get my computer to boot using either these two sticks, or the two sticks that came with my R8, but not in any configuration where I had both in any slot simultaneously. 2x OEM works as that was the configuration I got, 2x this item works if you put in 1 stick at a time and it is recognized as 16GB, putting in 1 of each, even 1 at a time, the computer doesn't post. Putting in an additional different stick with 2x of the same stick in fails to post as well. I read about older AlienWare setups seemingly locking up the ability to run 4x8 but the R8 doesn't even seem to run 3x8 for 24GB.
If you want more than 16GB of ram in your R8, you're going to have to buy it with a 16GB stick from AlienWare for your original configuration then add another 16GB stick, or buy 2x 16GB sticks from Amazon."

I am getting nervous after reading this review. the DELL store ones are so costly ..

Yeah, the problem is the numbering of the slots on the mobo is different from the numbering of the slots in the manual. So when the manual describes the procedure, it is based on the manual numbering, so if you follow that it'd be incorrect and more likely to black screen on startup if you're mixing RAM, which you generally shouldn't do. Most people use identical matched sets bought at the same time so the ordering doesn't make a difference if you have 4 sticks. And with 2 matched sticks, follow the manual and install incorrect, and you just lose out on the benefit of running them in dual channel mode.

Thought I would share this.
I went to upgrade my ram and like others, had many issues. However in my case I could only use Bank 1. Any other slot would not post. I tried standard Dell issued Ram and still failed.Turns out I had a faulty CPU.
Got it replaced under warranty and now run 4 x 16gb PC 3600 GSkill Ram without issue.

Hope this helps others

Just FYI that according to the first screen shot you shared, your RAM has been down-clocked from 3600mhz to 2133mhz. I guess you must have enabled XMP 1 later as the second screen shot shows it correct.

Hmm interesting you say that. In the bios I have XMP1 enabled and indicates correct RAM speed. Also the screen shot here show the timings to be at 3600. Thoughts as to why its different? AWCC shows correct speed

So a litlle research with CPU-Z
The SPD tab will display what the ram will boot up as default. That is without XMP enabled
The real memory speed is the memory tab.
So for those confused as to what their actual RAM is running at use the memory tab.
In my case PC3600
