Solved? Really? I seem to remember that quite awhile back in this thread this issue was solved...then it wasn't. I think I will wait to hear more than "one report" that this is a solution;  and consider this an unproven workaround...till shown otherwise by the communtity

We may all have R8s but they are each as unique as their owners. Hope for the best and keep your expectations low at this point. Good luck to us all

I believe that Dell has been irresponsible in not issuing a response to the issue, even if they haven't solved it yet. Also, the fact that they are still pushing that BIOs update on the Alienware Update app also seems to be unprofessional and irresponsible. I'm beginning to get annoyed with Dell.

Thank you for the reply. Better late than never, although it took a long time. I think most people can appreciate that solutions do not always come overnight, so we can exercise some patience now that Dell has made a preliminary response.

Yes, at this time I don't remotely think the problem is "solved". We just finally have some official acknowledgement that the problem even exists. But at least that is a beginning.

I can also confirm that the BIOS change posted by Dell as a temporary fix worked for me, I can now power on without issue (I had been for the last month+ pressing the power button numerous times to get a power on). Hoping they soon push a full fix!

"I can also confirm that the BIOS change posted by Dell as a temporary fix worked for me, I can now power on without issue"

I marked it as solved and will update once a permanent fix is available. There is no option for temporary solutions like this one.

When it is marked it will bring other users directly to a solution that is temporary but working, as opposed to trying and find a solution amongst 28 pages of replies.

The did respond in this thread and it's the marked solution.

Is this "work a round" using the latest BIOS 1.0.17 or the 1.0.9 BIOS?  Are the latest versions of  "Alienware Control Center" and "Alienware OC Controls" software being used?  I do not think this should be called a "Community Accepted Solution".  This is not a Solution.

There is no option to select a work around besides accepting it as a solution. This way it is easier to find when threads get this long and for now is the best (temporary) solution.

Once more information and a permanent solution is available I will update the thread to reflect the permanent solution.

What version of BIOS are you using with this temporary fix?  The latest 1.0.17 or the 1.0.9?

I contacted Dell Support team in Australia. They replaced a new top case for my R8 for free (even my R8 was out of warranty from April) then it works well again.

I am pretty sure it was software issue but the solution from Dell is perfect for me.

My R8 was running on the latest 1.0.17, as I was always able to power on (after a CMOS battery replacement when the problem first surfaced) by pressing the button multiple times. I've now changed the BIOS deep sleep and it powers on first time every time.

Same situation developed last night. And it's turkey day so no support.  And online chat less than helpful.  Followed thread and tried all and no go yet.  Will work on bios and all if I can get past only green light and fan stage.  Currently can't get it to power back on.

A redirect posted by Vanadiel in another forum posting brought me here.

My Aurora R8 just randomly started shutting down for no reason about 5 days ago. I've read through all 29 pages but the focus has solely been on the inability, or trouble, with turning on the computer. My computer is never turned off, but I can confirm this is happening with the WU applied 1.0.17 over top of the Alienware Updated 1.0.17 BIOS. My biggest issue is the computer shutting off repeatedly and in no consistent time frame. This makes it extremely difficult to remove the offending BIOS, for a rollback to 1.0.9, as I'm in a world of hurt if it shuts off mid-update.

Is anyone else plagued with frequent reboots, and how did you get past this long enough to apply the recommended troubleshooting steps?

Great to see that there is a possible solution.  Dell Support had me ship my computer across the country, told me they had to replace the motherboard and top of the computer, found out they couldn't get the parts till March and are now sending the computer back to me after holding on to it for almost a month.  I am both relieved and extremely frustrated to find out this may just be a bad bios update on their part. Hope to get the Bot back in my hands soon so I can test this out.  I can not say how relieved I was to find this thread.
