Here it is. Still waiting for the keyboard and mouse to come out. Until then, I’ll try and figure out how I want my desk setup. Any ideas? The screen feels closer than usual.
I usually keep it off to the side angled, so it’s not as close.
I noticed the power supply makes a screeching noise when the fan is on... My r8 didn’t do that at all. In fact my r8 PSU was very quiet. Is this normal ? Should I call dell? The power supply is supposed to be better on the r9 what gives ?
I ended up using both fans dell630i sent me on the front intake.
The other one, maybe I’ll install as a push pull on the radiator.(Maybe there’s enough room on the top of the case, in between the case and radiator housing) And just maybe, I won’t have to remove MOBO to do it!
The fan on the right is what came on the front intake.
Although not the most elegant solution, it gets angled ever slightly to give the lower fan a clear airflow path. At the cost of blocking the top fan airflow for you double-front-fan-ers.
That’s what I’m saying. The r8 psu fan never came on!
Other things I’ve noticed.
The power % is much lower compared to the r8 when gaming. Case temps are way down. 30c is average. Goes up to 40c while gaming. My r8 was 50-60c.
I guess I’ll have to wait and see what other people are saying about the psu fan noise. I don’t really care to much. (The case fans are much louder) lol
The screeching sound probably isn't the fan. It's coil whine. You must have gotten a really great R8 PSU with the fan never turning on because mine never turns off until the day I swapped it out with the same PSU as @Anonymous has.
Even then, there is one part on my R8 that never fails to give out a screeching sound whenever I quit from Heaven benchmark software. I attribute that to a perfect storm of currents interacting to have some bundle of wires somewhere resonate.
Having coil whine on a brand new system is not acceptable to me. If you have a spare PSU lying about, try to swap it out to see if that's the cause. Or get Dell to send a technician over with a spare PSU, or better, PSUs from R8 and R9 to ascertain whether that's the root cause or not.
It definitely sounds like the fan. When the fan turns on, it makes a couple of squeaks, then a consistent squeal. It sounds like the fan has no grease on it or something. But maybe it’s the coil. Who knows.
Either way. It’s unacceptable. They need to send me a new psu. If they don’t. I’ll threaten to return it. Just like I did my r8 lol
Everything is working fine, after initially having issues with AWCC , and support assist. I don’t want to have to return it. (I already cut those small holes in the HDD cage) But maybe they won’t see that if I do return it.
Does anyone know if its possible to replace the fan on these psu ? If I do replace it, I run the risk of the fan not working properly ? Or always staying on?
Sounds like a bad bearing. It happens, even new. Fan shaft might have burs, or the bearing itself could have burs in the machined race the balls sit in.
You could probably replace the fan if you open the PSU. You might need to splice or solder the replacement in.
Congrats on the new R9. What are you using to monitor case temps?

I’ve actually finally got everything running well.

@Anonymous , they solved that problem with the annoying USB header connectors we were talking about!

I was trying to use imgbb
Should I be using something else?
Yes those are different connectors. They are actually more difficult to remove and install. Since it goes into pins.

That's if changing PSUs even solves the problem. We won't know until @Bmwpower603 decides it bothers him enough to go down this debug path.

I wouldn’t mind doing that. If it’s easy enough..

I think the Dell USB3 20 pin header is smaller than standard so the mod cable is not likely to work.

The new look is strange IMHO.

Here’s a video of what the fan sounds like..
I’ll send it to dell.
