Aurora R9, motherboard power limit
Hi there, I have an Aurora R9 with an 850w PSU, and has the stock Alienware Z370 motherboard. It came with a 9700k cpu, but I have since upgraded to a 9900ks. I have run into temp issues with this cpu and the stock 120mm AIO liquid cooling, and have had to undervolt to keep temps below 100C.
What is the TDP for this motherboard? I have looked everywhere and am unable to find anything. Without some detailed specs from Dell I am seriously considering replacing the mobo with an aftermarket that I can have some real info on, plus much better control from the BIOS. If I were to do that I might as well upgrade to a Z390 board, however I doubt any aftermarket board would fit in the R9 case without some major modification, which I am uninterested in doing.
Anyway,
1.What is the TDP for Alienwares Z370 board? Model # 0T76PD - A01
2. What aftermarket boards will fit in the Aurora R9?
Thanks in advance,
Wash those hands people

Dell updated R9 bios to support i9-9900ks after initial release but has not updated cpu cooling for it. TDP of 9900ks is 127W. TDP of original i7-9700K was 95W. Not a surprise that you had trouble cooling the 9900ks. I am not sure what TDP of motherboard is. perhaps you mean VRM quality when you OC cpu? I assume you have heatsink on VRM on left side of cpu socket which is standard in R9. It is the same heatsink used in R8/R7. Are you running the latest ver. of AWCC?
A better AIO cooler for 9900ks is what you need if latest AWCC is not able to keep it cool than replacing the whole motherboard. you probably already know this: running a top gun cpu in a cramped SFF chassis of R9 is not a great match (not sure why Dell designed this new case?). Unless you love the R9 case so much, time to move system board and cpu to a custom gaming PC case if you can. The custom case and cooling options are endless and they cost much less than a new Z379/390 board. The 390 gives you more usb/Wifi but will not help your cpu cooling a bit.
