That will be a plug and play solution. You do not want to mix and match memory configurations, so your existing single 8 GB stick I would keep, or at your choosing sell to someone who has a use for it. To be honest I would keep it a few more months because memory prices are going up as we speak.

Well, yes. Get rid of it or hopefully give to someone who can use it.
If you install a perfect matched pair of compatible memory DIMMs, it will run at the system's intended stock speed, and also in DUAL-CHANNEL.
Get CPUID's CPU-Z to analyze system and track your progress.

Best is to get the DELL memory upgrade that has been validated with your configuration.
