Issue RAM upgrade Aurora R4

BIOS A11,

http://www.findlaptopdriver.com/mainboard-alienware-07jnh0-specs-5h48372011/

^motherboard

New RAM is:

CML16GX3M4A1600C9B   4x4gb, 1600 MHz, 1.5V.

I don't know why the computer doesn't accept the RAM, (won't start, just starts than instantly turns off)

anyone know what I did wrong?

I'm honestly regretting buying this machine all these years ago since upgrading things is impossible without starting from the ground up and half the things that should work don't.

From what I can tell, it looks like the computer will only accept 8GB max modules for a total of 32GB in an 4x8 config. If you are wanting 16GB total, you need to buy 2x8 or 2 8GB modules.

From my notes:

Chipset
Intel X79 Express Chipset (Intel BD82X79 PCH)

Memory

DD3 Non-ECC Quad Channel supporting overclocked and XMP Memory

•DDR3-1333 PC3-10600
•DDR3-1600 PC3-12800
•DDR3-1866 PC3-14900

Minimum: 8Gb
Maximum: 32Gb

4x 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM Slots for use with the following configurations:
•8Gb (2x4 Gb DIMMS)
•16Gb (2x8 Gb DIMMS)
•24Gb (2x8 Gb + 2x4Gb DIMMS)
•32Gb (4x8 Gb DIMMS)

------------------------------
Personally, I think new-memory 4x4gb-dimms should down-clock and work, but only if it's DDR3. However, I'm sure there are more compatible DIMMs out there. DDR3-1333 PC3-10600 is most compatible.

You could re-install the old working memory and take screen-shots of CPUz's Memory & SPD screens (and then match them closer).

The Aurora R4 only accepts 2 GB and 4 GB DIMMs.

But I don't know why those particular DIMMs aren't working. The R4 owner's manual says 1600 MHz RAM is supported.

Here's a CPU-Z screenshot of my R4, which has four 4 GB DIMMs:

If you do a search for that part number (HMT451U6AFR8C-PB) you'll find it on several sites, including Amazon, for around $25 per DIMM.
