"blocking the ssd plug in on the mobo for adding extra ssd’s. My R9 with the 2080 Super is pretty close to blocking 2 of them."

You're not kidding, on my R9 with SLI 2080 Supers I managed to get a straight plug into one unblocked SSD motherboard plug with a very long nose pliers.  If I want to use the other two plugs, I would need to remove one of the video cards and only a right angle plug would have clearance for the video card to fit back in place.

Sometimes I think Dell figures clearance space in angstroms.

right angle or forget about itright angle or forget about it

2. I’m would like to go with 64gb hyperx@3400mhz ... is this not upgradable to 128?

The hyperx 3200mhz seems to be upgradable to 128gb.

That seems to be what Dell is offering at the moment...but remember; all specifications are subject to change without notice.   I wonder if Dell is only offering 64 Gb at 3400 MHz because of a supply shortage?

Just a thought, but if so, they may offer it up to 128gb at a later date.  Then again, it may be one of those unusual Dell motherboard restrictions.

Historically, you have to slow down the memory just a bit as you approach max capacity for the motherboard. Remember:
- 3200mhz is still very fast
- It should be running dual-channel
- Personally, seems like 64gb would be plenty. However, I'm not all-up on DCS system reqs. for VR. Sounds cool though.

Humbug I say, we all knew what he meant...my lazy little brain didn't even consider changing it.

Dell have "blower" type GPUs, these chuck out all the heat where you attach the cables. There are very few "blower" type cards aftermarket as blower get hotter inside but expel less heat around your motherboard. Aftermarket cards are often overclocked by manufacturers, so they are mostly with many fans, 2-3, expelling the air above your GPU onto your CPU, or some few models are water cooled which transfers the heat away from your CPU.

If you cannot get hold of a blower type,

  • you will have restrictions for adding a watercooled GPU... where to put the radiator?
  • if not watercooled, you will have hotter air on the CPU needing more airflow, add an upper front fan to start with in the HDD slot

I am not sure of whether airflow for an upper front fan will be restricted on the R11 case, I do not have one I am currenly on a R8 with a different panel design.

Also does the new gpu’s ... 3080 and 3090 come with the new rad coolers or just the normal 1 fan config like my rtx/pny2080 Super.

I suspect that the pcie rad card will likely be offered with the top Ampere cards, even though they aren't yet.  They are probably still working on it IMHO, the move to liquid cooling for the GPU was probably intended to deal with the added heat dissipation required by these cards.  It is a $200 or so add on for liquid cooling I believe, and it is not possible to have sli plus liquid cooling since the cooler uses a gpu slot.

I have no doubt that Dell would advertise a radiator (liquid cooled) connected to their 3090, so no, since this is their current advertisement for their top of the line R11...

it'll be a mighty tight fit with two cards and two radiators...it'll be a mighty tight fit with two cards and two radiators...

As far as I know that's a 2080 Super and the only liquid cooled model available today...if they have any in stock.

I'm sure other models will become available eventually, supply and demand of all parts are in a rather chaotic state at the moment.

I like the concept...just not sure how I would get two 3090s with liquid coolers stuffed into my R9 case.

It would take a lot of axel grease and a shoe horn and still be a mighty tight fit.  Methinks something would pop out of the side...

Yeah nobody has suggested this was a possibility (it's not physically possible) nor could anyone say with a straight face that its possible to fit four x16 cards in a case / mobo with only two x16 slots.

I guess it could be possible to build a seperate case and move the units outside of the case. I think I saw GT post one of his builds of some sort. But I just want one 3090 and that rad ... just like they are advertising. And as I have asked if it will block the extra ssd ports of the mobo.
