Problem with Upgrading CPU in Alienware R5
I am trying to upgrade my CPU from the Intel core i3 6100. To the Intel core i5 8400. When I put the new chip in and try to start up I get a single yellow/amber flash. I tried resetting cmos/bios but that did not seem to help. When I put my old chip back in everything came on fine but the bios had been reset. Could this be a power supply issue or something else I am missing. They are the same socket as far as I know I have done this with a few other PC with success but am still new so any help would be awesome.

You cannot upgrade that system with a 8000 series processor. It's not compatible. You "MUST" have a 300series chipset to use any of the 8x intel processors. There is no work around. Sorry :(
