Question about AW 510 keyboard

Question

I am interested in this keyboard, but I am using a kvm switch to share my keyboard, mouse, and monitor with my new R10 and old R4. I understand that the 510 gaming keyboard has two usb cables. Are both needed for the keyboard to function? With my kvm switch I can only  connect one usb cable to the switch for sharing a keyboard. I understood that one usb cable is a pass through for the USB port on the keyboard. I have read reviews that say the keyboard will function fine with only one usb cable connected to the pc, while others say both must be connected for the keyboard to work. With my very old Tactx keyboard both usb cables had to be connected or the key keyboard would not work at all. thanks

Yes FX still work, that cable seems to be a pass thru only cable. Has no effect on FX or operation.

I have the 510 and just tried it, it works fine with the USB pass thru disconnected.

the pass through works great and can use a little usb hub there too.

Are you able to adjust the fx lighting without the usb cable?  Just curious because with the Alienware monitor lineup the separate USB upstream cable is needed to change the LED settings in AWCC, in addition to allowing passthru for the usb ports.

Perhaps Mike could address this. It was the case with my TACTX kyeboard, which prevented me from using it with my KVM switch. Currently I am using the default basic keyboard that ships with the R10. but would like to upgrade to a new gaming keyboard.

This is limitaton of your KVM. All the units I use have mouse, keyboard, sound
