The R8 is better only because of the better video card.

NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 2080 Ti 11GB GDDR6 (OC Ready)

This is the card I have.

The R8 because of 2080 Ti. FYI, you can also buy the Aurora with 2080 Ti.

@CC  The R8 and R9 are essentially the same PC, the primary difference is that the R9 got the plastic "Legend" facelift for 2019 (so it looks more curved).  Additionally, I the R9 has the option of the flagship 9900KS.

Other than that, if you buy it from Dell you should have the option to custom configure them with more or less the the same parts, and you can go with which ever one is cheaper. Or, which ever design you like better, if price doesn't matter.

Some minor differences are that the R9 comes with some airflow improvements, like there's a vent for air to be expelled from the bottom back of the chassis, and there's no option for an internal optical drive due to the new faceplate design.

On that layout the R8 is but the difference in the R8 and R9 is the design of the case and only the design. Everything on the inside can be hand picked so you can take whatever R and built it to however you want. I was just trying to figure all this out myself. I bought a R9 and then seen a R8 with the exact same specs and was like . Enjoy!
