Try pressing the FN + F5 keys to restart the system and switch the video cards. Once it restarts, try connecting it again to confirm if it detects it properly.
I have already attempted that and had no luck; I have also checked for updates at the same time. Resolution still only detects Mobile display and VGA, and FN + F9 still fails to detect anything. Something has to be going on as I tend to get random black screen flickers that come and go every 15 minutes approximately, when I leave it plugged in. When it is unplugged, I get no screen flickers.
It appears like you are following all the correct procedures to connect the device. Perhaps you can try posting on the Chromecast Help Forum, someone there may have experienced the same issue and may be able to help.
